The “stability” of capital means instability and sacrifices for the people

Comment by the International Relations Section of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE):

"Alongside the foreign media’s focus on political developments in Greece, public interventions by leading local business figures have also become more frequent, reflecting their concern over “stability” and their calls on the Greek parties competing for power to “roll up their sleeves” in order to safeguard it.

Their concern is not about the artificial confrontations within the political system, nor the disputes between old and new parties that present themselves as the “saviours” of the people and vie with one another over who can provide a stable government. All of them remain reliable choices for the bourgeoisie, which is once again seeking to recycle the “right-left” divide and the false dilemma of governmental alternation for a supposedly humane management of capitalism.

What concerns them most is the possibility that the people may challenge the stability of strategic choices related to “fiscal discipline”, military involvement, the energy plans of big capital, imperialist alliances, and the state and its institutions.

They are well aware that the simmering popular discontent could, under certain conditions, be transformed into a mass challenge to these choices, especially as the system faces growing difficulties in managing its rivalries, dead-ends, and contradictions.

Through their public statements, various big business figures are drawing attention to this danger and urging the bourgeois parties to act responsibly, deepen their consensus, and make use of the “carrot and stick” policy in order to keep the people passive and compliant.

For the people, however, this so-called stability has already been tested and holds no surprises. It is leading the country even deeper into imperialist war and its consequences: high prices that erode the people’s incomes, the normalization of war casualties, and drones deployed throughout the Greek seas. It brings new burdens for the people and demands fresh sacrifices in order to protect the profits and interests of capital.

The stability sought by the system means widespread instability for the people. For this reason, the working class and other poor popular strata have every interest in overturning this scenario. By steadily intensifying their struggle, joining forces with the KKE, they can challenge the strategic choices of the bourgeoisie and strengthen the current of opposition to policies that serve its interests, in all their forms, both old and new."
