The recent statements by US President Donald Trump fully confirm the warnings made by the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV): Washington’s aggression against Venezuela and the Caribbean is not a response to a supposed fight against drug trafficking or the defense of democracy, but rather part of an imperialist offensive of recolonization aimed at appropriating our nation’s natural resources, territories, and strategic assets.
Particularly serious and alarming is the US president’s brazen claim to “Venezuelan oil, land, and assets,” which constitutes a new Trump corollary to the Monroe Doctrine and seriously jeopardizes the sovereignty of the peoples of the region. This militaristic offensive has already had tragic consequences, claiming the lives of dozens of people summarily executed in military operations in the Caribbean and the eastern Pacific, in a context of total impunity.
The PCV strongly condemns the imperialist maneuver of recolonization promoted by the US government; the act of international piracy represented by the theft of oil tankers loaded with Venezuelan crude; and the explicit threat to plunder the assets and wealth of the Venezuelan nation, violating the right of peoples to decide sovereignly on their resources.
The PCV demands unrestricted respect for the sovereignty and self-determination of peoples and the demilitarization of the Caribbean. We reaffirm our historic commitment to the anti-imperialist struggle and the unity of the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean in the face of threats of domination and plunder.
Out with the Yankee military boot from Latin America and the Caribbean!
