KKE's leader Koutsoumbas: "The challenge is not to manage capitalism, but to abolish it"

In a comprehensive interview with ERTNews television on Monday, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) Dimitris Koutsoumbas declared that the Party “stands strong, ready for everything — ready to answer the call of history for socialism.”

Koutsoumbas portrayed the current situation in Greece as one of intensified class confrontation. He stressed that the government’s policies continue to burden workers, small farmers, and the popular strata, perpetuating inequalities under new forms of austerity.

According to the General Secretary, while the official narrative speaks of “growth” and “stability,” the reality for working people remains one of exploitation, inflation, and insecurity. Emphasizing the KKE’s readiness for all circumstances, he explained that this means not only daily struggles in Parliament, in workplaces, and on the streets, but also preparation for broader social transformation. “The challenge is not to manage capitalism more humanely,” he underlined, “but to abolish it altogether.”

Koutsoumbas called for the unity of workers, youth, farmers, and all exploited sectors, insisting that the Party’s role is to deepen its roots within the popular movement. “The KKE is not an electoral machine,” he said, “but a revolutionary force that derives its power from the people’s struggles.”

Turning to foreign policy, he reaffirmed the KKE’s anti-imperialist and anti-NATO position, warning that Greece’s involvement in imperialist plans threatens to drag the country into dangerous adventures. He advocated for a new direction based on peace, independence, and solidarity among peoples.

In conclusion, Koutsoumbas’ interview presented a Party confident and determined, a KKE that refuses compromise with the capitalist system, that invests in people’s organization, and that prepares — politically and ideologically — for the socialist future.
