KKE: Statement for the refugee crisis in Belarus-EU borders

The KKE calls the people of Poland and Belarus, as well as the other people of the region, to turn their backs on nationalism and racism, to strengthen the solidarity with the people who are victims of imperialist wars and exploitation, points out a statement of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) concerning the dramatic situation in the Polish-Belarusian border.

More specifically, the statement (here in Greek) issued by the Press Bureau of the CC of the KKE reads:

“The latest developments with the entrapment of thousands of refugees and immigrants on the borders of Belarus with EU countries (Poland, Lithuania, Latvia) are another result of the imperialist interventions and wars led by the US, EU and NATO. It is a manifestation of the inhuman capitalist exploitation of the people and a desperate attempt for survival, forcing millions of people to choose increasingly dangerous escape routes to fall into the “claws” of traffickers.

The collapse of the unacceptable push-backs agreement between EU and Belarus, after the attempt of euro-atlantic imperialism to overthrow the current political leadership of Belarus, has led, among other things, to today's appalling utilization of the refugee and migrants' issue in the context of “bazaars” between the EU and the Belarusian authorities.

The problem's solution does not lie in the policy of savage repression, push-backs, deportations, entrapment and prison camps promoted by the EU, which not only does not address the causes of the problem, but is also a policy that tortures thousands of people. The solution lies in the struggle against imperialist interventions and capitalist exploitation, for the real protection of the rights of refugees, the granting of asylum in the countries of their actual destination, while guaranteeing their rights for decent housing, work, education, social welfare and full implementation of the Geneva Convention and the international treaties for the protection of the refugees.

The KKE expresses its solidarity with the refugees and immigrants and denounces the “instrumentalization” of this important issue by the EU and NATO, as well as by the bourgeois governments. It calls the people of Poland and Belarus, as well as the other people of the region, to turn their backs on nationalism and racism, to strengthen the solidarity with the people who are victims of imperialist wars and exploitation.

We demand the immediate withdrawal of all Greek armed forces from NATO exercises and the euro-atlantic intervention plans in Belarus in the context of the competition and encirclement of Russia. No participation in NATO plans. The bases of death must close. Disengagement from imperialist unions”.
