Communist Parties condemn attack on Cuban Embassy in Washington DC

Communist and Workers' Parties from across the world have issued statements condemning the terrorist attack against the Cuban Embassy in Washington DC on Monday.

More specifically, two Molotov cocktails were thrown at the Embassy in the second attack since shots were fired at the diplomatic compound in 2020.

Communist Party of Mexico (PCM)

Communist Party of India (Marxist)

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the terrorist attack on the premises of the Cuban Embassy in the USA on the night of September 24, 2023.

While there were no injuries to the personnel present, there was damage to the property.

This is the second violent attack against the Cuban embassy since April 2020.  Given the US administration's hostility towards socialist Cuba, the perpetrators still await trial even after three years.

The Polit Bureau demands that the US administration must strictly adhere to and implement the stipulations of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.  Prompt and strict action against the perpetrators must be ensured.

Attacks will not subjugate the Cuban people

A new one was added to the US attacks targeting the Cuban revolution on the night of September 24, 2023; Cuban embassy in Washington was attacked with a Molotov cocktail.

It is pleasing that there was no loss of life or injury in the attack. However, this should not make us forget the fact that thousands of Cubans lost their lives and tens of thousands were injured in the countless terrorist attacks that the US imperialism has launched in the past.

Today the US government made a statement condemning the attack. Yet, this should not make us forget the fact that the terrorist attacks carried out by counter-revolutionary groups in the country have always been supported by the US government both financially and with legal immunity.

And it is despite these facts that the USA included Cuba in the so-called list of countries sponsoring terrorism, which demonstrates the endless hypocrisy of imperialism. With this arbitrary decision, the USA is trying to justify the inhumane blockade imposed on Cuba, a desperate effort that is totally in vain. The honorable people of Cuba have shown countless times that they stand for brotherhood and solidarity in a world which imperialism has drowned in blood and tears.

Cuba's name should immediately be removed from this fraudulent list.

The horrible crime of genocide, the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on the Cuban people should unconditionally be ended.

Any terrorist attack targeting the Cuban revolution and its legitimate leadership should cease.

It should be known that none of these shameless attacks can subdue the Cuban people.

The Communist Party of Turkey greets the honorable Cuban people and the fraternal Cuban Communist Party with the warmest feelings of solidarity.

Long live socialist Cuba!

Long live international solidarity!

Central Committee of Communist Party of Turkey

Party of Labour of Austria (PdA)

The Central Committee of the Party of Labour of Austria (PdA) strongly condemns the terrorist attack on the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in the USA. Unknown perpetrators had thrown two Molotov cocktails at the building in Washington, D. C. last Sunday evening. Fortunately, there were no people injured; there was only property damage.

Obviously, better security is needed for foreign diplomatic missions in Washington, which is the responsibility of the US administration under the Vienna Convention. Furthermore, the law enforcement authorities and judicial authorities of the United States are urged to swiftly solve the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice.

However, we also point out that the anti-Cuban sentiment fomented by US policy and "exile Cuban" groups is partly responsible for this attack. Therefore, we call for an end to the propaganda war, destabilisation and blockade policies of the US against Cuba. The sovereignty and rights of the Republic of Cuba must be respected, any imperialist interference is contrary to international law.

In view of the new terrorist attack against the Cuban embassy in the USA, the Party of Labour of Austria declares its full solidarity with the Republic of Cuba, with the government of people's power and the Cuban people.

Workers' Party of Ireland

The Workers Party of Ireland condemns the terrorist attack on the Cuban Embassy in Washington on 24th September 2023. This is the second violent attack against the Cuban Embassy since April 2020. These acts are a part of a long campaign of hostility, terror and economic sabotage waged by the US against socialist Cuba.

Thousands of people have been killed and injured in these attacks on the Cuban people and their Revolution. The US blockade against Cuba has cost the Cuban economy many billions of dollars. Every year the United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly passes a resolution condemning the blockade, all of which are ignored by the US.

The US has outrageously refused to remove Cuba, a victim of US sponsored terrorist attacks, from the spurious US list of state sponsors of terrorism.

The Cuban Revolution will not be defeated.

Solidarity with the Cuban people and the Cuban Communist Party!

End the criminal blockade!

Long live proletarian internationalism!

On behalf of the Central Executive Committee

Workers Party of Ireland

Communist Party of Switzerland

Last 24 September, the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Washington was the target, for the second time in a few years, of a new terrorist attack. Although, fortunately, there were no casualties, this episode remains serious and well demonstrates the climate of hostility that is fomenting in the United States against Cuba, even endangering diplomatic premises.

The timing of the attack is no coincidence, since it occurred precisely when Comrade Miguel Diaz-Canel, President of the Republic and First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba was on US soil to attend the 78th session of the UN General Assembly. It is clear that Cuba's diplomatic successes annoy imperialism, which continues to impose a criminal embargo in order to strangle the island's economy.

The US government's defamatory campaign slandering Cuba as a country sponsor of terrorism legitimises the violent actions of anti-Cuban mafia groups that feel unpunished and even tolerated by the US authorities. This attack shows that it is not Cuba that sponsors terrorism, but rather that it suffers it, and that the White House turns away when criminal organisations prepare attacks against Cuban infrastructure. In fact, it should not be forgotten that since the triumph of the Revolution until today, Atlantic imperialism has extensively used the weapon of terrorism to destabilise the rebellious island and the socialist character of its order, causing more than 3,000 deaths and as many injuries.

The Communist Party of Switzerland:

1) condemning the attack in Washington, demands from the U.S. authorities not only a thorough investigation to bring the criminals to justice, but above all to provide greater and adequate protection for the Cuban Embassy in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

2) Aware that it will not be these cowardly attacks that will defeat the Cuban Revolution, renews its feeling of solidarity with the heroic Cuban people, its Communist Party and its diplomatic corps.

3) Reiterates its call on the Swiss government to wholeheartedly implement postulate no. 20.4332 approved by the federal parliament, which urges the Swiss Confederation to take concrete measures against the genocidal economic blockade against Cuba that the USA is imposing on the rest of the world.

Communist Party of Ireland

The Communist Party of Ireland condemns the September 24th terrorist attack on the Cuban Embassy in Washington DC and we call on the US authorities to provide greater protection to the embassy.

This attack must be seen in the light of the ongoing cold war waged by successive US administrations against socialist Cuba, including the illegal blockade, which has been repeatedly condemned by the UN General Assembly.

Neither the terrorism of the petrol-bombers nor the state terrorism of the blockade will defeat the Cuban Revolution and it will continue to act as a beacon for all those who struggle against imperialism.

The Communist Party of Ireland salutes the heroic Cuban people, led by their Communist Party, and calls for the end of the blockade and all acts of terrorism against Cuba and its Embassies.

General Secretary.

Communist Workers Platform USA (CWPUSA)

On Sunday, September 24th, a would-be arsonist threw two Molotov cocktails at the Cuban Embassy in Washington, DC, in a blatant act of terrorism. There are no reports of death or injury, though the attack has undoubtedly raised tension among the embassy staff.

This attack is the second since the embassy first opened in 2015. In April 2020, a Cuban expatriate, Alexander Alazo, fired thirty-two rounds into the building with an AK-47 rifle. Though police later apprehended the attacker, the US State Department issued no statement condemning the attack.

The lack of response by the US government demonstrates their thinly veiled support for anti-communist terrorism by the US government. “The anti-Cuban groups resort to terrorism when feeling they enjoy impunity, something that Cuba has repeatedly warned the US authorities about,” says Rodríguez Parrilla, Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs.

We must not forget the direct role the US has played historically in sponsoring counterrevolutionary forces directed against the Cuban Revolution. Since the original closing of the embassy in 1961, the US Central Intelligence Agency has armed and trained hundreds of anti-communist and anti-Castro groups against Cuba. Must we even mention their outright military attacks, such as the Bay of Pigs Invasion?

The Communist Workers’ Platform condemns this act of terror as a manifestation of anti-communism, not only among US reactionaries but also of the bourgeois state itself, an attack against a system that threatens their legitimacy. Though only socialism-communism will bring an end to the depredations of imperialism, in the meantime, US communists must stand in defense of Cuba against the violent intent and criminal indifference of our government.

End the blockade!
Fight imperialism!
