Communist Party of Kenya: Statement on King Charles III's Visit and British Colonial Legacy

The Communist Party of Kenya Statement on King Charles III's Visit and British Colonial Legacy

In the looming shadow of King Charles III's visit to our nation, we find ourselves confronted by a stark and unsettling reality. His presence serves as a jarring reminder of an old-world order, a fading relic of redundant and defeated feudal forces that once dominated Europe.

King Charles III embodies a symbol of wanton robbery, echoing the exploitation of the global south.

The Communist Party of Britain on the coronation of Charles III and the monarchy

Statement by the Communist Party of Britain (CPB) on the coronation of Charles III and the British Monarchy:

This weekend's coronation was designed to maintain public support for an institution that embodies the gross inequalities, privilege and anti-democratic nature of our society.

Recognising that many people enjoy opportunities to gather together in response to appeals based on patriotism, tradition and ceremony, Britain's ruling class and its mass media have done all in their power to promote this spectacle.

The terrible legacy of Constantine Glücksburg

Constantine (center) with the military Junta leaders, 1967.
Constantine Glücksburg, son of Paul and Federicka, who died on Tuesday 10 January aged 82, was the last representative of the institution of monarchy in Greece, reigning between 1964 and 1973.

The monarchy in Greece didn't arise as in other states, as a remnant of the transition from feudalism to capitalism, but was introduced after the 1821 Revolution as a result of the direct intervention of the “Great Powers” of the time (Great Britain, France, Russia), in collaboration with part of the rising Greek bourgeoisie. As an institution, it didn't evolve into a “decorative ornament”, as it happened in other capitalist states, but retained its role as a center of power, always embedded in the framework of the bourgeois state with direct links to international capitalist centers.

Young Communist League on the death of Elizabeth II

The Central Committee of the Young Communist League of Britain has issued the following statement in response to the death of Elizabeth Windsor, aka Queen Elizabeth II:

The death of Elizabeth Windsor highlights to our generation and working people across Britain that the abolition of the monarchy remains a pressing and important issue.

It is fundamentally clear, now more than ever, that Britain must become a modern republic. A tiny interbreeding sect of a decaying aristocracy cannot and will never reflect the interests of working people in Britain.

Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee: 70 years of hurt

The following article was originally published in Challenge Magazine, the official organ of the Young Communist League of Britain (UCL), under the title "Seventy years of hurt", on the occasion of Queen Elizabeth II's 70th anniversary since her ascension to the throne.

Armed constables amass in Westminster; police drones and helicopters flutter in the skies; Her Majesty’s homeless subjects are cleared from the streets. Tom Cruise takes a moment out of promoting Top Gun: Maverick to gurn through a televised royal circus show. The bunting flies resplendently above emaciated high streets. ‘Midst the worst immiseration in 40 years, there’s momentous pomp, procession, and pageantry — the platinum motherfucking jubilee.
