The “Red Scare” is fading: 43% of Americans view Socialism positively

A record 43% of Americans now hold a positive view of socialism, according to a Gallup poll published on September 23, 2026. The figure is the highest recorded since the organization began tracking attitudes toward socialism in 2010, reflecting a significant shift in a country where anti-communism has been deeply entrenched for generations.

The findings are particularly striking among young Americans aged 18–34, 57% of whom view socialism positively, compared with 43% who hold a positive opinion of capitalism.

“America will never be a communist country,” declares the 30-second advertisement now appearing on American television. Images of Donald Trump flash across the screen alongside boasts about tax cuts and economic performance, before the message arrives at its most revealing line: “Paid for by the U.S. Government.” 

The White House calls it an “educational” public-service announcement; the administration says such spots simply encourage Americans to “love their country.”

Capitalism is dying: More than 30% of young Americans view communism positively, survey reveals

A recent survey conducted the by the reactionary Cato Institute and YouGov provides a quite promising perspective for the U.S society. Despite decades of severe anti-communist propaganda in education and media, a significant number of young men and women in the States seem to hold positive views on the concepts of socialism-communism.  

 

According to the Cato/YouGov survey, 62 percent of Americans aged 18–29 say they hold a “favorable view” of socialism, while 34 percent say the same of communism.
