On August 13, the Working Group of the Meeting of European Communist Youth Organizations (MECYO) convened in Madrid and unanimously decided that the 20th MECYO will be hosted by Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) in Athens from November 14 to 16, 2026. Based on a proposal by KNE that was adopted by the other organizations, the theme of the upcoming meeting will be:
“We continue the struggle against imperialist wars, poverty, exploitation and the system that breeds them. Solidarity with the peoples in struggle!”
This year’s MECYO, the 20th, marks an important milestone in the history of this initiative, which was launched at KNE’s initiative in 2000 in an effort to take steps forward in joint action and in the exchange of experience from youth struggles developing across Europe. The first meeting was held in Madrid, while Athens has hosted it twice, in 2003 and 2018.
Throughout its long course from 2000 to the present day, MECYO has become an important forum for the exchange of experience, the development of joint action and the coordination of the common struggle of Communist Youth organizations across Europe.
Particularly under today’s conditions, marked by the widening of imperialist war and the war preparations of bourgeois states, it is crucial to place at the center the struggle of Communist Youth organizations against the involvement of their countries in the bloodshed, and for a society that will abolish the cause that gives rise to wars — socialism-communism. It is equally important to strengthen the exchange of experience and conclusions drawn from the struggles developing in each country.
The Working Group also decided that, within the framework of the Meeting, an Ideological Seminar will be held on the theme:
“The struggle of Communist Youth organizations against anti-communism and repression, which are intensifying under conditions of escalating imperialist war.”
A resolution of support and solidarity with the Cuban people was also adopted.
The following organizations participated in the Working Group, hosted in Madrid by the Collectives of Young Communists of Spain:
