KKE's leader Koutsoumbas: Greece must immediately recognize a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders

In the face of dramatic situation experienced by the Palestinian people due to the brutality of the Israeli state, the General Secretary of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and President of the Party's Parliamentary Group, Dimitris Koutsoumbas, sent a letter today to the leaders of the opposition Parties.

The letter proposes the creation of a joint draft text that will be addressed to the Greek government urging it to take - also in its capacity as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council - relevant initiatives on the following issues:

 - All military operations of the state of Israel in Gaza must stop.

- All humanitarian corridors should be opened now, so that immediate assistance, water, food, medicine, and doctors can be sent to address the famine for the Palestinians.

- The Greek government should condemn the crimes of the state of Israel.

- The unanimous decision of the Parliament from 2015 should be implemented immediately, and the Palestinian state should be recognized within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The letter of the KKE General Secretary is as follows:

"The dramatic hours that the Palestinian people are experiencing, due to the occupation, genocide, and escalating military operations by the state of Israel against them, cause great concern among the Greek people, as well as all peoples, regarding the development of this tragic situation. The feelings of the people and the youth are feelings of solidarity towards the plight of the Palestinian people, in contrast to the stance taken by the ND government."

The refusal of the Israeli forces to allow even the provision of humanitarian aid brings the Palestinian people face to face with the threat of famine. Already, the UN, as the head of humanitarian aid, warns that in Gaza, in the coming hours, 14,000 babies are at risk of death due to malnutrition and lack of medicine.

The KKE, in light of the critical situation unfolding in Gaza and despite the differing positions among political parties, is addressing the leaders of the opposition Parliamentary Groups to draft a text to the Greek government so that it—also in its capacity as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council—can take initiatives on the following issues:

All military operations of the state of Israel in Gaza must stop.

All humanitarian corridors should be opened now to immediately send aid, water, food, medicine, and doctors to address the famine for the Palestinians.

The Greek government should condemn the crimes of the state of Israel.

The unanimous decision of the Parliament from 2015 should be implemented immediately, and the Palestinian state should be recognized within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital."
