Monument dedicated to Stalin erected in Melitopol

A monument dedicated to Soviet leader and architect of the 1945 Great Antifascist Victory, Joseph Stalin, was erected in Melitopol, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, on May 8, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Victory Day

The statue carries a plaque that reads: "To the organizer and inspirer of the victory of the Soviet people over the Nazi invaders, Generalissimo of the Soviet Union Joseph Stalin, from grateful descendants."

The ceremony was attended by Russian officials and local school students who laid flowers at the site.

It is reminded that on 15 May, Moscow’s Metro installed a replica of a long-removed monument to Stalin. The monument was unveiled to the public on Thursday, following Victory Day celebrations last week and the 90th anniversary of the Moscow Metro.

While the installation of such monuments is definitely a positive thing, we shall not ignore or forget that the Russian people's nostalgia and positive attitude towards the Soviet Union and the socialist period is constantly exploited by the bourgeois establishment for its own political aims, especially since the beginning of the imperialist war in Ukraine.
