KKE denounces the unhistorical anti-communist fiestas of the European Union

The KKE MEPs, Lefteris Nikolaou and Kostas Papadakis.
Once again the European Union and the governments of the Baltic countries have promoted the commemoration of August 23rd as a "European Day of Remembrance for the victims of totalitaranism and authoritarian regimes".

Towards this direction, they reproduce the unhistorical and dangerous equation of communism with fascism.

In statement published in 902 portal, the delegation of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) in the European Parliament denounces the unhistorical and anti-communist fiestas of the EU.

More specifically, the KKE statement condemns the "unhistorical statements" by EU Commissioners (such as EU Commission's social democratic vice president Frans Timmermans and Justice Commissioner Vera Jourova) and the fiestas organized by the EU and the governments of the Baltic states which attempt to equate communist with the monster of fascism.

"They are trying in vain and they are mistaken if they think that they can re-write History which has been sealed by the Great Antifascist Victory of the People" points ouf the statement and reminds that, in various polls, the people of the former socialist states express nostalgia and admiration for the socialist system when they compare it with today's capitalist barbarity.

The KKE delegation in the EU Parliament stresses out that "socialism and the pioneering struggle of the communists along with the people defeated fascism" and underlines the great sacrifices of the Soviet Union during the anti-fascist war (20 million deaths, millions of injured people, incalculable material damage).

"The Red Army liberated many countries from the Nazi yoke and raised the red flag with the sickle and hammer in Reichstag, while the USA, France and Britain, with their large business groups, had a leading role in the strengthening of Nazi Germany both before (with the Munich Agreement) as well as during the Second World War in order to defeat the Soviet Union", writes the statement.

The KKE EU Parliament delegation "condemns the escalation of anti-communism, the new reactionary laws and persecutions against the Communist Parties of Poland and Ukraine and their newspapers, the prohibition of the communists' activity in the Baltic countries and the honors given to the SS collaborators, the destruction of historical monuments of the Anti-fascist Victory".

The statement points out that "the necessity and timeliness of socialism is proved by the fact that only socialism solved, many decades ago, today's unsolved problems which afflict millions of workers' families". And concludes by stressing out that "the people have the power and can, if they decide it, to overthrow the rotten capitalist system which breeds and feeds nazism-fascism, brings poverty, wars and uprooting for the people, for the profit of the big business groups".
