In a statement issued today, the Press Office of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) expresses the Party's concern over the dangerous developments and the escalation of imperialist confrontation in the region of Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.
More specifically, the KKE "expressses its deep concern for the developments in Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East where military esclation is intensified, within the framework of the confrontation of USA-NATO and EU with Russia for Syria and the control of the province of Idlib (stronghold of Jihadists), with the participation of other powers too, like Israel, Turkey and Iran".
The KKE statement points out the dangerous possibility of new attacks against Syria, such as the ones that took place last April by the USA, France and Britain, under the pretext of chemical weapons' use by the Assad government.
"During the last days- the statement of the Communist Party writes- powerful euroatlantic military forces are concentrated in the region, where a large military drill by Russia is taking place ending on September 8th and immediately after that the US-NATO exercise "Bright Star 2018" has been scheduled, with the participation of a large number of states, including Greece".
The KKE characterizes the situation as "dangerous" and points out that "it is connected with the imperialist competitions in the Balkans, the integration of Western Balkans in NATO and the EU, even with border changes' plans between, e.g. Serbia and Kosovo, but also with Turkey's intensification of aggression which, additionally, has planned the creation of a military base in the occupied part of Cyprus".
"The KKE calls our people to be vigilant" writes the statement and calls the people to "escalate the struggle against imperialist interventions" and to "decisively condemn every attack against Syria and the Syrian people".
Finally, the Communist Party of Greece calls the people "to fight against the antipeople policy of the SYRIZA-ANEL government which is a flag-bearer of the NATO and EU interests in the region", to demand Greece's non-partitipation in the imperialist plans and military exercises and the closure of the Souda naval base.
