“The Left in the Contemporary World”: International symposium to be held in Cyprus on November 7

The Progressive Party of the Working People (AKEL) of Cyprus will host an international symposium titled “The Left in the Contemporary World” in Nicosia on 7 November, as part of events marking the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party of Cyprus–AKEL.

Representatives of fraternal and partner parties from around the world are expected to participate in the meeting, which will focus on major political and social challenges facing the world today and on the role, proposals and prospects of the Left in the 21st century.

Cyprus: Far-right military leader Georgios Grivas to be honored with a museum

General Georgios Grivas (1897-1974), the notorious ultra-nationalist, fiercely anti-communist military leader whose name became synonymous with terrorism and treason, will be once again honored by the Cypriot government. Recently, with the votes of the governmental centre-right Democratic Rally (DISY), the Democratic Party DIKO and the social democratic EDEK, the Parliamentary Finance Committee agreed to release the fund for the so-called “Grivas Museum”.
