The Party That Saved British Capitalism: Labour from Attlee to Burnham

By Nikos Mottas

Andy Burnham's arrival at 10 Downing Street has, once again, been accompanied by the familiar chorus of illusions. Britain, we are told, has entered a "new era." A new Labour prime minister promises hope, fairness and renewal.

Yet beneath the new rhetoric lies the same old reality. The faces change. The managers change. The class character of the British state does not.

That coup was the violent response of the ruling classes to guarantee their offensive in all the spheres; it was their response against the advance of the workers', peasants', and popular organization.

European Communist Action: In the EU of monopolies, the right to vacation is sacrificed on the altar of profit

Statement of the European Communist Action: The right of popular families to vacation is sacrificed on the altar of profit through the ruthless exploitation of tourism workers

The right to leisure and rest is a social right, just like the right to work, touching on issues of health, culture, and even sports. This right has been and continues to be the subject of class struggles for the physical and intellectual capacities of workers. The struggle for paid leave or for the reduction of working hours are just two examples.

“Yanks to the Rescue”: 30 years since the U.S. helped re-elect Boris Yeltsin

The 3rd of July marked the 30th anniversary of Boris Yeltsin's re-election in one of the most consequential presidential contests of the twentieth century. Western governments, corporate media and international financial institutions celebrated the result as a triumph of "democracy" over the alleged threat of a communist return.

For the Russian working class, however, the election meant something entirely different. It marked the decisive consolidation of the capitalist counter-revolution that had begun with the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

If Communism Is Dead, Why Is Trump Still Fighting It?

By Nikos Mottas

Donald Trump's latest anti-communist offensive once again invoked the familiar spectre of an alleged communist threat to the United States. Yet it is the occasion, rather than the speech itself, that reveals the real political purpose of his intervention. It was not provoked by the emergence of a revolutionary workers' movement, the growth of a mass Communist Party or a wave of socialist expropriations.

NATO: Who Will Finally Send the Bloodstained Alliance of Imperialism to the Dustbin of History?

By Nikos Mottas

As NATO leaders conclude their summit in Ankara, once again proclaiming their commitment to "security," "stability" and the so-called "defense of democracy," the peoples have every reason to reject the mythology surrounding an alliance whose history is inseparable from imperialist aggression, intervention and war.

Behind the carefully orchestrated communiqués, diplomatic handshakes and declarations of unity stands an organization created not to defend peace, but to defend the strategic interests of the dominant capitalist powers.

By Nikos Mottas

The fireworks have faded. The speeches have ended. Once again, the American ruling class celebrated another Independence Day beneath the familiar banners of liberty, democracy and the "American Dream." Yet beneath the official anniversary lies another America—one that rarely appears in presidential speeches or television retrospectives.

There has always been more than one America.

Show FIFA the Red Card! Infantino, Trump and the Commercialization of Football

By Nikos Mottas

For years, FIFA has insisted that football must remain free from politics. This principle has repeatedly been invoked to sanction supporters over banners and slogans, to warn players against political gestures and to remind national federations that the game must not become a platform for political expression. Yet this proclaimed commitment to keeping politics out of football has proved remarkably selective.

Ten years after Brexit: The false choice between two roads of capital

By Nikos Mottas

Ten years ago, millions of people in Britain went to the polls to decide whether the country should remain in or leave the European Union.

The referendum was hailed as a historic democratic exercise, a choice that would supposedly determine the country's future. Workers were told they had only two options: remain in the EU to safeguard prosperity, democracy and stability, or leave to "take back control," restore national sovereignty and build a better future outside Brussels. In reality, they were offered no real choice at all.

In a statement concerning Prime Minister Keir Starmer's resignation, the Communist Party of Britain (CPB) points out the following:
