The renewed escalation of hostility by the Trump administration towards Cuba—through tightened sanctions, political pressure, and open ideological aggression—once again exposes a fundamental contradiction. 

A country that presents itself as the "global model of democracy" continues to treat a small socialist island as a persistent threat. This is not a coincidence. It points to something deeper: what is being contested is not “democracy” in the abstract, but two fundamentally different ways of organizing power in society.

The decision of the Knesset to approve legislation imposing the death penalty on Palestinians marks a very dangerous escalation in the institutionalized repression of an entire people—an escalation that has been met with a forceful and uncompromising response from the Communist Party of Israel.

Adopted on the night of March 30, the law stipulates that capital punishment will be imposed on anyone who carries out a deadly attack “with the intent to deny the existence of the State of Israel.” In reality, however, the law is crafted in such a way that it overwhelmingly targets Palestinians.

Jürgen Habermas, the celebrated philosopher and “defender of humane Enlightenment values,” as the Guardian newspaper called him, died this month.

Among the flood of eulogies, one Alex Karp published a reminiscence of Habermas, under whom Karp studied in his late twenties. Defying police crackdown, Israeli communists protest against US-Israel aggression towards Iran

Reactions to the Israeli state’s military operation against Iran continue inside Israel itself, despite increasing repression and the authoritarian measures of the state against anti-war voices.

On Saturday evening, demonstrators gathered at Habima Square in Tel Aviv to protest the government’s decision to continue the military assault. The recent alert in Cyprus following threats of Iranian drone and retaliatory missile strikes once again exposes a dangerous reality that governments in Athens and Nicosia persistently attempt to obscure: the presence of U.S., NATO and British military bases turns both Greece and Cyprus into potential targets in an expanding imperialist war.

For days now, the wider region has been moving ever closer to the possibility of a generalized confrontation in the Middle East. The escalation triggered by the aggressive policies of the United States and Israel against Iran has already created a climate of extreme tension across the entire Eastern Mediterranean.

Four Years Under Death’s Ravenous Gaze

The conflict in Eastern Ukraine did not come as a surprise to the KKE. It marked the ignition of a confrontation that had long been in the making — methodically prepared in the pressure cooker of clashing powerful interests — and it is a direct consequence of the capitalist restoration that led to the dissolution of the Soviet Union. It is worth recalling that at the time, the entire spectrum of Greece’s political establishment, from the far right to the so-called “renewed Left” — except the KKE — was proclaiming that “the avenues of peace and prosperity” were opening up for the peoples.

This blatant aggression against Iranian territory occurs while the Iranian and US government officials, with the mediation of regional countries, have been engaged in negotiations over the past few weeks to resolve disputes over Iran’s nuclear program.

Israel's communists condemn US-Israeli joint military aggression against Iran

Israel and the United States launched a joint military attack on Iran this morning (Saturday). U.S. President Donald Trump officially announced that the United States had initiated a “large-scale attack” on Iran. 

 

According to reports, explosions were heard this morning in the capital, Tehran, and in other parts of the country. In Israel, sirens sounded in the north and center of the country following missile launches from Iran, and residents across the country were instructed to remain close to protected areas.
