KKE: Hands Off the Communist Party of Mexico and the Front of Communist Youth!

On October 2, Mexican police violently attacked members of the Communist Party of Mexico (PCM) and the Front of Communist Youth (FJC) as they were heading to a demonstration commemorating the 1968 Tlatelolco massacre. Eight communists were arrested and several were injured in the police assault.

In a statement, the International Relations Section of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) notes:

“On Friday, October 2, a group of comrades from the Communist Party of Mexico (PCM) and the Front of Communist Youth (FJC) were subjected to a violent and unprovoked attack by the Federal Police outside the Party’s offices in the center of the capital.

The violent police attack resulted in the injury, among others, of Miguel Uribe, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Mexico, who was temporarily detained; Ernesto Seidritz, Secretary of the Central Council of the Front of Communist Youth; as well as several other comrades.

The police arrested eight communists and confiscated flags, banners, statements and other political material.

Members and cadres of the Communist Party of Mexico and its youth organization were on their way to the demonstration marking the 58th anniversary of the massacre of students at Tlatelolco, when the then social democratic government of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) ordered the army to open fire on a mass student demonstration, resulting in the deaths of more than 350 young people.

The memory of this massacre remains alive, all the more so in light of contemporary cases such as the murder of the 43 students of Ayotzinapa in 2014. The Communist Party of Mexico is playing a leading role in exposing the case and seeking justice for the victims and their families, against the current MORENA government’s attempt at a cover-up.

The KKE unequivocally condemns the violent attack against the members and cadres of the Communist Party of Mexico and the Front of Communist Youth and expresses its wholehearted internationalist solidarity with their struggle.

The escalation of repression by Mexico’s social democratic government against the communists confirms its enduring anti-people role against the workers’ and people’s movement and its vanguard.

In Mexico, as everywhere, these developments confirm the need to strengthen the independent struggle of the peoples against governments of every kind, whether right-wing/liberal or social democratic".
