The KKE spoiled the atmosphere of “national unity” surrounding Rubio’s visit in Greece

Comment by the International Relations Section of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE):

Two “schools of thought” dominate the analyses of the bourgeois parties in the wake of Rubio’s visit. One is that of the cheerleaders, led by the government: they are hailing Greece’s “upgrading” in US-NATO energy (and other) plans and continue to regard it as a major advantage that Rubio came to Greece but did not go to Turkey.

The other school is that of the … sceptics, led by  Social Democracy. They are annoyed that the US factor is taking the Greek government for granted and that the latter is not demanding more in return within the Greek-American alliance.

Although the subtle differences between them are presented as dividing lines, the truth is that they complement one another in supporting the bourgeoisie’s new “Great Idea”, the implementation of which requires greater involvement in imperialist wars and Euro-Atlantic plans. They completely agree that the Greek Armed Forces should be present wherever US-NATO interests are at stake, that the Vertical Corridor — which will transport American LNG to the Balkans and Ukraine — is of strategic importance, that NATO bases must be constantly upgraded as launching pads for war, and that the state must spend billions of euros on military equipment and meet NATO's targets for spending on military equipment. Their “differences” merely serve to create the impression that adjustments can be made to the terms of involvement in war, in order to balance out intra-bourgeois contradictions and contain people's discontent with a policy that is leading them straight to ruin...

The KKE created a major problem for the “national unity” surrounding the US Secretary of State’s visit and the country’s increased involvement in energy rivalries and wars; it opposed the visit, declared the  murderer Rubio persona non grata, exposed the imperialists’ criminal plans and warned the Greek people of the dangers of deeper involvement in the plans of the US and NATO, for the benefit of the interests of local and foreign monopoly groups. The communists, acting independently through hundreds of diverse protests, rallies, mobilizations and so on,  as well as through the activities of PAME, the class-oriented trade unions, EEDYE and other mass organisations, with large demonstrations,  mobilised the people and the youth against Greece’s involvement in the imperialist wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, demanded the closure of the US-NATO “bases of death”, the return of Greek armed forces deployed abroad, and Greece’s disengagement from imperialist plans and alliances, with the people being masters in their own country.

Once again, the KKE has spoiled the atmosphere of “national unity.
