A quite interesting story comes from the state of Tamil Nadu in India. It is not uncommon for people of communist ideology throughout the world to name their children after important figures of the international communist movement, such as Lenin, Karl, Rosa, Ernesto, Fidel, etc.

However, the Salem District Secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI) A. Mohan has taken things to an all-new level.  According local news sites, his three sons born after the 1990s have been named Communism, Leninism and Socialism, as a tribute to the erstwhile Soviet Union.

Mr. Mohan grew up in a communist family and became a full-time worker of the CPI. When his wife was carrying their first son, the Soviet Union disintegrated. Many commented that communism was dead. This upset Mr. Mohan.

He said, “In 1991, when the Soviet Union broke up, reports were published that communism had come to an end. My wife was pregnant and I was determined to name my first child Communism if it was a son. Communism will not die until the human race exists. Hence, my first son was named so. My second son was named Leninism in memory of Lenin. Communism has to be established for socialism to take shape...”

The names of these men have shot to popularity thanks to the wedding invitation of their youngest brother - Socialism, who is a silversmith. The to-be bride's name has also caught people attention - as the invitation reads Socialism weds Mamata Banerjee.

The wedding that is to take place on Sunday, June 13th is expected to witness only about 50 persons in attendance, owing to Covid-19 restrictions on gatherings. CPI State Secretary is among the leaders expected to grace the occasion. And there’s a special young guest too - Marxism, Mohan’s grandson.

“Communism will be there till humanity is alive,” says Mohan, the proud father of three men.
