Solidarity with the striking workers of General Motors in the U.S. — WFTU statement

On Sept. 16, 50,000 General Motors workers walked off the job in their first strike since 2007, protesting idled plants and low wages.

Workers on picket lines outside GM factories waved signs declaring “UAW On Strike.” In Bowling Green, Kentucky, they blocked the three entrances to the assembly plant, which normally builds the Chevrolet Corvette.

In a statement the Secretariat of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) expresses its solidarity with the strike of the workers in General Motors company in the United States. More specifically the statement writes:

The World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), being the militant voice of 100 million workers in 132 countries around the globe, conveys its internationalist solidarity with almost 48,000 striking workers of "General Motors Company" in the USA.

After negotiations of the new collective bargaining agreement with the company, the workers have been on strike since last Sunday, demanding the signing of an agreeement that respects their claims.

The big class-oriented family of the World Federation of Trade Unions firmly supports the struggles of the people working at the biggest carmaker company of the USA and demands the satisfaction of their fair claims for the improvement of their working conditions.
