Spain General Elections: Statement by the Communist Party of the Peoples of Spain (PCPE) / Comunicado de Prensa del PCPE

PRESS STATEMENT OF THE PCPE ON THE CALL OF GENERAL ELECTIONS

The Prime Minister has just announced in a public appearance the call of General Elections for next April 28. For the Communist Party of the Peoples of Spain, this call represents a new failure of social-democracy, which has evidenced once again the impossibility to manage capitalism for the benefit of workers and the people after the motion of no confidence approved on June 1, 2018.

As we warned after the success of the motion of no confidence, it has been confirmed that the working class must place no trust in social-democracy. Thus we called then to give no minute of truce to the new capitalist Government and to increase the workers' and peoples' struggle in all the sectors.

The Pedro Sánchez Government will go down in history because of its politics of gestures, the systematic breach of its promises and its international imperialist stance, clearly expressed in the support lent by the PSOE Government to the coup d'état carried out in Venezuela.

At the same time, this new and short period of social-democrat Government has confirmed the collapse of the new social-democracy represented by Unidos Podemos and its members, which have proved to be unable to offer an alternative for the peoples' majorities and fully subordinated themselves to the old social-democracy.

The PCPE requested the Parliamentary Confederal Group of Unidos Podemos the withdrawal of the parliamentary support to the PSOE after its support to the coup d'état in Venezuela, and we demanded the call of General Elections. We understood it was a demand made by principles, largely shared with the social base of Unidos Podemos. Nevertheless the new social-democracy became the only support to the imperialist Government in the budget debate and furthermore became the accomplice of its politics by completely moving away from any internationalism.

The capitalist forces are going to try to trap the working class with false dilemmas in the next elections, by placing it against the dichotomy of supporting social-democracy or allowing the advance of the right and far-right forces, against the dichotomy of choosing between one or another form of managing capitalism. We call the workers from our country to not fall into that old and well-known trap.

Our interests and our future do not depend on who manages our exploitation, but on putting an end on every form of exploitation and oppression. Therefore the Communist Party announces its participation in the next General Elections. And it does it with the top priority goal of accumulating workers' and peoples' forces in a breakdown line with capitalism; with the aim of organizing the big Communist Party our working class and our people need to put this country into their service.

For one country for the working class!
