The 43rd KNE-Odigitis Festival concludes its journey with a three-day political and cultural event in Athens

After passing from numerous cities and town across Greece, including last week's successful three-day festivities in Thessaloniki, the 43rd KNE-Odigitis Festival concludes its journey on 21-23 September in Athens. The events of the festival, which have political and cultural dimensions, will be held at "Antonis Tritsis" Park in the western suburb of Ilion. 

This year's Festival by the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) is dedicated to the 100 years since the Great October Socialist Revolution. For that reason, a significant part of the Festival will honour this great historical event, with a large exhibition which will also include material from the KKE archives.

A large crowd of young communists, members and friends of the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE), attended a speech by the Secretary General of the Communist Party of Greece Dimitris Koutsoumbas, yesterday at the city of Ioannina in northern Greece. The speech by the KKE Secretary General marked the closing of the 26th anti-imperialist camp of KNE.

For more than four decades, the KNE-Odigitis Festival, organised by the Communist Youth of Greece (youth wing of the KKE), consists a major annual cultural and political event. 

This year, the KNE-Odigitis festival will honor the Great Socialist October Revolution, using as a major slogan the lyrics of the Soviet poet Vladimir Mayakovsky: "100 years since the October that shocked the world "the future will not come on its own… If we do not also take measures". 

Communist-backed 'Panspoudastiki' gains second place in Greece's student elections

“Panspoudastiki KS”, the communist-backed university students party- emerges again at a national level as the second force in the Universities and the Technological Institutes. The result confirms that there is a very important mass of students that place their trust in the positions and activity of the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE).

Thousands of students supported the lists of “Panspoudastiki KS” (PKS) in the student union elections held on the 24th of May. They struggled alongside the members of KNE in order to shape the positive result of the student union elections.

“Panspoudastiki KS” increased its actual votes and percentage in the Universities, receiving 24.48% (in 114 from 199 Schools). The lists of DAP (of the conservative party New Democracy) gain the majority of votes (37.89%), while PASP (of the social-democratic party PASOK) and EAAK (ultra-left ANTARSYA) saw a reduction in their actual votes in the universities. The government-oriented  list BLOKO of the new social-democratic party SYRIZA has decreased dramatically, reaching 0.50%.

In the Technological Institutes “Panspoudastiki KS” received 25.81% (in 37 from 66 Schools) being in the third place.

In a statement, the General Secretary of the CC of KNE Nikos Abatielos points out the fact that "Panspoudastiki KS" remains a "militant force", remaing the second force in the University student elections. "The KKE and KNE will continue our efforts to strengthen the line of counterattack, against the antipeople policy of governments-EU-capital which crashes the studies and life of thousands of students" said Abatielos, adding that "the KKE and KNE will be in the front line of the struggle".

"Panspoudastiki" has received 20.69% (in 185 from 199 Uni. Schools) in Universities remaining second force. In Technological Institutes "Panspoudastiki" has 20.70% being the third force after DAP and PASP.

In a political event held in Thessaloniki, Greece on Saturday afternoon, communist youth organisations from six countries (Greece, Turkey, Spain, Italy, Serbia and Germany) declared their internationalist solidarity to the refugees. The event was organised by the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) and was attended by representatives of five communist youths:

The Socialist German Workers Youth; The Collective of Communist Youths - Spain ; The Young Communists Front - Italy; The League of Yugoslav Communist Youth- Serbia and the Communist Youth of Turkey.

KNE-KG Joint Declaration: The people and the youth of Greece and Turkey have nothing to divide

The Communist Youth, Turkey (Komünist Gençlik-KG) had welcomed a delegation from the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) on 13-14-15th December in İstanbul.

One of the outcomes of the correspondences between the two organizations has been a joint call to the youth in both countries for joining their common struggle based on proletarian internationalism against imperialist bloodsheds and capitalist barbarity. 

Condemn the unjust prosecution of young communist- member of KNE by the Greek authorities

KILKIS- Numerous working class unions, students and women associations, various bodies of the labour-peoples' movement in Greece have condemned the prosecution by the police authorities of a young woman, member of the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE). The KNE member, a student at Thessaloniki's Aristotle Univerity, was arrested on November 7th outside a high school in the city of Kilkis, northern Greece, after a complaint by the school's director. Her "criminal offense" was that she was....discussing with students the organisation of mobilization and struggle against the governmental policy on Education!

Showing primitive anticommunism the Greek authorities arrested the young comrade and appointed a court hearing on December 2nd. The prosecution was immediately denounced by the KKE Kilkis Sectoral Organisation and the KKE MEP Sotiris Zarianopoulos who expressed their protest to the local police department. 

Message of the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) to Cuba's Unión de Jóvenes Comunistas regarding the death of Fidel

The Communist Youth of Greece (KNE), the youth-wing of the KKE, send the following message to the Unión de Jóvenes Comunistas of Cuba on the occassion of Comandante Fidel Castro's death:

"Comrades of the Union of Communist Youth of Cuba,

We extend the sincere condolences of the members and friends of the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) for the death of Fidel Castro.

Thousands of people attented a large political event during the third- and last- day of the 42nd KNE-Odigitis festival in Athens. The major speaker was the General Secretary of the CC of KKE Dimitris Koutsoumbas. 

Other speakers included the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Sitaram Yetsury who delivered "red" revolutionary salutes on behalf of his country's communists and Nikos Abatielos, Secretary of the Central Council of KNE, who stressed that "our festival is a picture from the beautiful world for which our Party struggles".

In his speech, apart from the contemporary political, social and economic issues, the GS of the Communist Party of Greece Dimitris Koutsoumbas refered also to the Party's 100th anniversary in 1918. He said, among other things: 

Three years since the murder of Pavlos Fyssas by Golden Dawn Nazi thugs- Antifascist concert by KNE to take place in Piraeus on 17/9

It was the night of September 17th, 2013, at the western Athens district of Keratsini, when antifascist rapper Pavlos Fyssas was fatally stabbed three times by the nazi 'Golden Dawn' member Giorgos Roupakias. On the ocassion of the three years since the murder of Fyssas (also known by the nickname "Killah P"), the Piraeus Sectoral Organization of KNE (Communist Youth of Greece) organises an antifascist event on Saturday 17th in Pasalimani. The General Secretary of the CC of KKE Dimitris Koutsoumbas will attend the event.

The major slogan of the concert is "We don't forget! We fight fascism and the system that gives birth to it". The concert of KNE will take place in Pasalimani, Piraeus on Saturday 17/9 at 9 pm. Among the performers is the band "Rebellion Connexion". In a statement, among other things, the Piraeus Sectoral Organization of KNE points out: "The Goldendawnists (Golden Dawn members) are criminals because they are fascists. Their rotten ideology, the poison of racism, nationalism, xenophobia, is the womb which gives birth to their criminal activity (...) They are supporters of the exploitation system (...) The struggle of the people and of the youth will uproot the nazi- racist poison". 

“Struggle, Knowledge, Courage, Strength”: Communist Youth of Greece organises the 42nd KNE-Odigitis Festival

The annual KNE-Odigitis Festival consists one of Greece's most significant political and cultural events. Following a tradition of more than four decades, the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) organises her 42^nd Festival with a rich programme of political, cultural and sports activities. After numerous successful festive events in all over the country during the previous months, the KNE-Odigitis festival will take place in Greece's two largest cities; in Thessaloniki on 15-17 September and in Athens on 22-24 September.

In Thessaloniki the festival will be held at the former military camp 'Pavlos Melas' in Stavroupoli. The cultural programme includes concerts from popular bands like Imam Baildi, Onirama and Kitrina Podilata as well as famous singers like Glykeria, Filippos Pliatsikas, Giorgos Margaritis and Melina Kana. A speech will be delivered by the member of the Political Bureau of KKE Kostas Paraskevas on Saturday 17 September.

The major and final events of the 42^nd KNE-Odigitis festival will be held a few days later at 'Antonis Tritsis Park' (Ilion) in Athens. Numerous popular artists, composers, singers and bands, will participate in concerts including: Vasilis Lekkas, Thanos Mikroutsikos, Yannis Markopoulos, Miltos Paschalidis, Manolis Mitsias, Dimitris Basis, Natasa Bofiliou, Lakis Halkias, Giorgos Margaritis, Vangelis Korakakis, Rebellion Connection, Yperastikoi, Glykeria, Rita Antonopoulou, Imam Baildi, Onirama etc.

KNE Anti-Imperialist Camp: Thousands of young communists honored the heroic Democratic Army of Greece

VITSI, FLORINA (Source/Photos: 902.gr)- With a political event in the Memorial for the Battle of Florina, thousands of young communists, members and friends of the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) honored today the heroic struggle of the Democratic Army of Greece (DSE). Today's gathering was the conclusion in a series of events within the framework of the 25th Anti-Imperialist Camp of KNE which took place between 1-3 July in the mountainous area of Vitsi.

The camp's base was at Pisoderi, in Vigla, a mountain position at 1,550 metres. The area has a historic significance as long as the Democratic Army of Greece had maintaind there powerful bases, from Spring 1947 until August 1949. Also, the area had been the base for the General Command of the Democratic Army, of the CC of KKE and of the Provisional Democratic Government during the Civil War.

The 25th Anti-Imperialist Camp was also attended by representatives of communist youths from Italy and the former Yugoslavia. More specifically, members of the Youth Communist Front of Italy (FGC) and of the League of Communist Youth of Yugoslavia participated in the events and delivered their solidarity messages

25th Anti-Imperialist Camp of KNE in Florina: Honoring the legacy of the Democratic Army

Thousands of young communists are expected to participate in the 25th Anti-Imperialist Camp organised by KNE (Communist Youth of Greece) between 1-3 July 2016. The camp takes place in Pisoderi, Florina in northern Greece and includes numerous activities, such as political and music events, walk-climbing in the mountain, visits in mountainous strongholds of the Democratic Army of Greece, etc. 

This year's Anti-Imperialist camp honors the 70 years of the Democratic Army of Greece (DSE), the peoples' army which fought against the national forces and the imperialists during the country's Civil War (1946-1949). On Saturday morning, the participants will have the opportunity to visit the town where the Provisional Democratic Government (Communist Mountain Government) was based in 1947. 

The camp will conclude on Sunday 3 July with a political event in the Memorial for the Battle of Florina. Speech will be delivered by the Secretary of KNE Nikos Abatielos. 

Communist Youth of Greece (KNE): Statement on the decision of Athens Municipality to grant space for neo-Nazi gathering

In a statement issued today, the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) condemns the decision of the Municipality of Athens to grant a city park ("Gendarmerie Grove"/Alsos Horofilakis) for a gathering by the neo-Nazi 'Golden Dawn' party's youth wing:

"The decision of the Municipality of Athens to grant space at "Gendamerie Grove" to Golden Dawn for the organisation of the "Festival of Greek Youth" legalizes it's criminal activity. They give space to the Nazis in order to pour their racist and fascist poison.

If the Golden Dawn's Nazis want to organise a gathering, let them go to one of their leader's 10 properties; he is the richest political party leader.

The positions of Golden Dawn are positions which support the interests of the rich oligarchy and for that they are hostile towards the young people of the poor families. Golden Dawn, like a mastiff, serves the rotten and corrupt capitalist system which tortures the majority for the enrichment of the few.
