Attorney Amir Badran, a leading member of the communist-led Democratic Front for Peace and Equality (Hadash) and chair of its branch in Jaffa (Yafo), was elected Deputy Mayor of Tel Aviv–Jaffa on June 22, becoming the first Hadash representative to hold the position.
A Palestinian citizen of Israel, Badran is widely known for his involvement in struggles defending the rights of the Arab population in Jaffa, including campaigns against evictions, housing discrimination, and the displacement of local residents.
