Greece: Successful event in solidarity with Venezuelan people, against imperialism

A successful event in solidarity with the people of Venezuela and against the US-EU imperialist interference was co-organized on Sunday afternoon by the Greek Committee for International Detente and Peace (EEDYE), the Greek Committee for International Democratic Solidarity (EEDDA) and the Federation of Greek Women (OGE) in Athens.

The event was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Greece Zelmys Maria Dominguez Cortina and the charge d'affairs of the Embassy of Venezuela in Greece Freddy Jesús Fernández Torres.

In his speech, the president of EEDYE, also a Communist Party of Greece MP, Stavros Tassos, pointed out that "the US, NATO, the EU, these imperialist unions talk about "security, stability and peace", supposedly in the name of "democratic rights" and "aid" to the people of Venezuela! There is no dictatorship that these imperialists have not supported in order to promote their interests".

"How can they talk about peace and security, while they create insecurity and wars wherever they intervene and create alliances in order to support the profitability of their monopolies and the imperialist plans?" said Tassos and added: "This has been shown in the interventions in Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, in Ukraine. Furthermore, even the military drills of NATO consist preparation for wars in order to reduce the influence of their rivals, Russia and China".

"Τhe real reason behind the coup in Venezuela - said the president of EEDYE- is the service towards the big capital, the armed arm of which they are. In order to seize Venezuela's resources where some of the largest oil reserves exist".

From her side, the president of the Greek Committee for International Democratic Solidarity, Despina Markou, pointed out that for years, at least since 2014, Venezuela has been increasingly targeted by the imperialist powers, which aim in overthrowing the legally elected government in order to establish their own regime, each time with a different puppet-leader.

Markou reminded that all these actions by the imperialists have cost the lives of many Venezuelans, while a large number has been wounded. Of course, she said, we must not forget the coup d'etat against President Chavez which, nonetheless, failed within 72 hours.

Despina Markou also underlined that the "humanitarian crisis" is imposed by the so-called international community - the imperialist powers - in order to "generously" offer their "humanitarian aid", as it happened in Iraq, Yugoslavia, Libya, Haiti. "The solution in the problems that every country faces, she said, is an exclusive right and issue of her people, without self-appointed saviors".

The Vice-president of OGE, Mairini Stefanidi, expressed the full solidarity of the Greek Women's Federation towards the Venezuelan people and especially the women of the country. She condemned the new coup attempt by the US and their allied countries in Latin America and the EU against Venezuela, as well as the military threats, the economic war and the actions against the elected president.

Stefanidi also denounced the stance of the Greek government of SYRIZA which does not say a word about the US and tries to acquit the EU's role on the issue, while it is the EU which does not recognize the elected President Maduro and provocatively threatens the people of Venezuela with ultimatums.
