“The Only Superpower Is the Peoples”: International anti-war rally held in Crete

A strong anti-imperialist message was sent from Crete over the weekend as peace movements from Greece and the Middle East mobilized against the US-NATO military presence at Souda Bay, one of the alliance's most strategic bases in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The mobilization took place under the auspices of the World Peace Council (WPC) and was hosted by the Greek Committee for International Detente and Peace (EEDYE) in the framework of the Middle East Peace Movements Conference.

A group of fascists attacked members and supporters of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) who were at the party's offices in Chania, Crete, on Saturday afternoon.

According to "Rizospastis", the party's official newspaper, the attack was organized by individuals who shouted anti-communist slogans and declared their support for the Nazi-criminal organization "Golden Dawn". The reaction of the local organizations of the KKE and the Communist Youth (KNE), as well as residents of the area, was decisive and immediate, isolating the fascists and calling on the police to arrest them.

KKE: The supporters of the Nazis are not welcome in Crete

A paratroopers organization known as "European Paratroopers Association" purportedly planned to hold a "commemorative event" in honor of the Nazi troops who parachuted into the island of Crete on May 1941.

The event, which is allegedly scheduled to take place on May 17-23, 2021, in Crete was published in the group's website under the title "Kreta Memorial, decorated with the Nazi "Iron Cross" and accompanied by the following outrageous remarks: "It has been exactly 80 years since the III Reich Elite Troops jumbed and conquered the island of Crete. We will never forget their valor."
