WFTU 75th anniversary was honored in Athens

With a meeting of trade unionists and workers of the industry unions of Athens on October 2nd, the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME) honored the 75th founding anniversary of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU). 

The meeting was attended by George Mavrikos, General Secretary of the WFTU, who delivered a speech. 

Giota Tavoulari, President of the National Federation of Workers in Pharmaceutical Industries and Babis Vortelinos, TUI Public Services Vice President, delivered speeches on behalf of Greek Trade Unions.

Golden Dawn Trial: The Nazi criminals must be punished!

The 18th of September 2020 marked the 7th anniversary since the brutal murder of anti-fascist musician Pavlos Fyssas by members of the criminal, neo-Nazi Golden Dawn gang. Just a few days before Fyssas’ murder in Piraeus, the Nazis had unleashed murderous attacks against immigrants and trade unionists belonging to the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME).

On the 7th anniversary since Fyssas’ murder, hundreds of people marched in Athens demanding the punishment of Golden Dawn’s criminals.

Greece: Large militant demonstration by PAME and Trade Unions in Thessaloniki

Under the slogan “We paid a lot – We shall not pay again”, thousands of workers, self-employed and unemployed people, farmers, women and students participated on Saturday 12th September at the large demonstration organized by the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME) and Trade Unions, on the occasion of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ speech at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF).

Behind the banners of the Trade Unions, Labor Centers and Federations, protesters from Thessaloniki and the broader region sent a militant message to the anti-people, anti-worker attack of the conservative New Democracy (ND) government.

Fire destroys Moria refugee camp in Greece — Statements by KKE and PAME

A large fire has destroyed Greece's largest refugee concentration camp in Moria, Lesbos. About 25 firefighters and 10 engines battled the flames as migrants were evacuated. 

Moria was home to nearly 13,000 refugees and migrants, which is more than four times the number the camp can officially hold. 

In a statement published in 902 portal, the Press Bureau of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) demands the immediate closing of Moria urging the authorities to proceed to the relocation of the refugees-migrants to safe places, under all the necessary measures of health protection, in mainland Greece.

Greece: Huge rallies against ND government's bill which aims to restrict and prohibit protests

“The prohibition of demonstrations will not be implemented” was the message sent to the government by thousands of protesters throughout Greece who participated in massive rallies against the new law which aims to restrict demonstrations and public gatherings. 

In Athens’ Syntagma Square, outside the Greek Parliament, Trade Unions, Students Unions and various organizations of the workers’ movement gave a militant response to the government’s authoritarian bill.

KKE and PAME call for mass popular uprising against government's bill on demonstrations

In a statement regarding Greece's right-wing government's shameful bill which aims to ban demonstrations and popular protests, the Political Bureau of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) points out:
"The KKE calls for a mass popular uprising for the withdrawal of the ND government bill, which is trying to paralyze the right to labor-people's demonstrations, for which rivers of blood were shed.

Greece: The prohibition of demonstrations by Mitsotakis’ government shall not pass!

On Monday, the conservative government of New Democracy (ND) submitted to the Greek Parliament a despicable bill that aims to restrict demonstrations, protest rallies and outdoor public gatherings. 

The bill stipulates that organizers will have to promptly notify police or port authorities about planned gatherings. It provides for restrictions regarding the amount of road space occupied and the location of the demo. It also allows authorities to ban demonstrations under certain conditions, and sees criminal penalties for violators.

Capitalism is the virus: Large workers' rally by PAME and Trade Unions in Athens

Under the slogans “Take a breathe. Break the chains of exploitation” and “Poverty, unemployment and authoritarianism: Capitalism is the virus” thousands of people, workers, students, young men and women participated in a large rally organized by the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME), Trade Unions and Labour Centers in Athens, Greece.

The rally was organized as a response to the anti-worker attack of the conservative ND government which tries, once again, to shift the burden of the new economic crisis to the people.

Responding to the news of the racist murder of George Floyd by a police officer in Minneapolis, the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) issued the following statement on May 30th:

The World Federation of Trade Unions expresses its solidarity and internationalism to the workers and unemployed of the USA.

We demand the immediate end of racist violence and state authoritarianism of the US government, which kills innocent citizens and protesters.

Greece: PAME’s impressive May 1st rally caused nightmares to anti-communists

The great, eye-catching demonstration  organized by the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME) on May 1st in Athens' Syntagma Square caused nightmares to anti-communists and various apologists of capitalist barbarity. 

The enemies of the working class from all over the bourgeois political spectrum, from Golden Dawn's neo-Nazi criminals to conservative New Democracy MPs and from far-right charlatans to SYRIZA's social democrats, expressed their deep discomfort for the celebration of the International Workers’ Day.

"The deadliest virus is capitalism": Great May Day rally by PAME in Athens

In a rally with great symbolism, workers and labour unions honored the International Workers’ Day in Athens’ Syntagma Square, thus sending a powerful message of proletarian solidarity. 

Organized by the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME), the rally took place with all the necessary measures of protection due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the protestors keeping distance from each other, wearing masks and gloves.

Greece: The "Black Bible of Employers during the Pandemic" presented by PAME

In a press conference held on Thursday 2 April in Athens, the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME) presented numerous cases of anti-worker policies and tactics implemented by big businesses during the last weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic in Greece.

Nikos Papageorgiou, member of the PAME Secretariat, pointed out that there is “an unprecedented attack by the big employers who are utilizing all the measures taken by the government”, adding that “with most businesses closed, the government has issued Decree Laws including provisions that abolish labour rights, cut in half the already miserable wages, empower employers with the right to pay us whenever they want, to employ us whenever, wherever and however they want.”

Coronavirus in Greece: The government must take protection measures for all workers

Addressing the issue of public health due to the outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), PAME and Workers’ Unions have urged the government to take immediate measures of protection. 

In a statement today the General Secretary of the KKE Dimitris Koutsoumbas said that, additionally to the advise provided by the National Organization of Public Health (EODY), the government must take measures which will ensure the protection of public health and the workers’ rights.

In face of the latest developments with the refugee situation in the Greek-Turkish borders and the Aegean islands, the vanguard of Greece's class-oriented labour movement, the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME), issued the following statement:

The trapping of thousands of refugees and immigrants in the Aegean islands and the Greek-Turkish border in Evros, in the most dramatic way, highlights the barbarism of imperialist organizations, the EU and NATO and the active involvement of all Greek governments in these organizations.

Greek government's authoritarianism exceeded all limits: Police brutality hits Aegean islands

In the last two days, the Greek government has unleashed a brutal attack against protesters in the islands of the Aegean, particularly those that have been at the epicenter of the refugee-migrants issue during the last years. 

Demonstrators in Lesvos, Chios and Samos suffered excessive repression and violence by riot police forces as they demanded the end of the concentration camps. The local unions in Lesvos, Chios and Samos, have been in the front line demanding real measures of protection and assistance to the refugees, as well as support to the local communities, who witness their land turn into huge EU’s detention centers.

Massive strike in Greece: Thousands took the streets against anti-Social Security reforms

With powerful strike demonstrations in more than 60 cities across Greece the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME) and the class movement of the country gave a militant response to the government’s anti-people policy on Social Security and pensions. 

From midnight workers gathered in factories, labour places and production units to prevent possible strikebreaking efforts, while in Athens public transportation was stopped.

PAME calls for strike on February 18th against ND government's Social Security reforms

A nationwide General Strike in both state and private sector has been announced by the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME) for February 18th, as a response to the anti-people reforms of the Greek government on Social Security and Pensions. 

In a statement addressed to workers, pensioners, farmers, self-employed people and students, PAME calls for mass participation in February 18th’s strike. 

“Social Security has to do with our lives. The unacceptable anti-Social Security draft law must be withdrawn!” is the headline of the call which reads:

KKE and PAME express solidarity and support to the earthquake-affected people of Turkey

The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME) have expressed their solidarity and support towards the working class and the people of Turkey who had been affected by the deadly 6.7-magnitude earthquake. 

In a message to the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP), the International Relations Section of the CC of the KKE expresses its support to the people of Turkey for the numerous victims and the huge damages caused, one more time, by the recent disastrous earthquake in Eastern Turkey.

Netanyahu is unwelcome in Greece — PAME

In a statement issued today, the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME) denounces the policy of  New Democracy (ND) government which strengthens Greece's ties with Israel, refering to the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Athens on January 2nd. Netanyahu visit's main purpose is for the signing of the agreement on the East Med pipeline. 

More specifically the PAME statement points out:

“For the profits of the big energy monopolies that have bloodshed the whole of the Middle East, the ND government continues its “friendship” policy with the state of Israel that is killing the Palestinian people daily, stealing Palestinian land with settlements, killing and imprisoning even small children.

The Greek people have nothing positive to gain from monopoly competitions. The “stability” of the Eastern Mediterranean, the government proclaims, are watered with the blood of Palestinian children.

Greece: Thousands demonstrated against the governmental budget-"guillotine"

Under the slogan "No to the budget-guillotine! Struggle for the people's contemporary needs" thousands of workers, students and pensioners demonstrated in Athens and other Greek cities, expressing their opposition with the anti-people state budget submitted by the conservative New Democracy government. 

After a call by the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME), the protesters gathered at Propylea and marched towards the Parliament where the debate on state budget will conclude tonight with a roll-call vote.
