Statement of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) on Trump-Erdogan meeting

In a statement concerning yesterday's meeting between Rejep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S President Donald Trump in Washington DC, the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) stresses out:

OUR COUNTRY’S INTERESTS WILL NOT BE BEGGED FOR AT THE WHITE HOUSE GATE!

The Erdoğan–Trump meeting in Washington is not a “step toward solutions.” It is the snapshot of a country pushed into a corner, standing at the edge of an abyss.

A rendezvous arranged through an airplane bargain will cost Turkey more than $100 billion. That bill will be dumped on the backs of our working people.

To present the fate of our underground wealth, our national agenda, our future itself as dependent on the words that fall from Trump’s mouth is unacceptable.

There is nothing real in the claim that this visit will rescue Turkey from crisis. The outcome is already written: Erdoğan gives, Trump takes.

AKP went to Washington with only one item on the table — surrender. Our resources and our Treasury are being thrown open to plunder.

We are taking note of those who drag our country to the cliff’s edge, of those who seek legitimacy at the White House gate.

The swamp of Neo-Ottomanist fantasies is the work of the AKP. And the United States — with its billion-dollar “rescue” deals — is not the way out, but the swamp itself.

Turkey must be freed — both from the swamp and from those who led it there.
