KKE: Condolences to the Algerian Party for Democracy and Socialism for the death of Zoheir Bessa

The Algerian Party for Democracy and Socialism (Parti Algérien Pour la Démocratie et le Socialisme - PADS) issued a statement on Thursday 28 August 2025 announcing the death of its long-time cadre, Zoheir Bessa (Bessa Ibnou Zahir), who died in France following a long battle with illness.

Born in 1947, Zoheir Bessa was an economist and a journalist, a founding member of PADS and director of Alger Républicain newspaper.

In a message (here in Greek) addressed to the Algerian Party for Democracy and Socialism, the International Relations Section of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) expresses its condolences:

"It is with sadness that we learned of the death of comrade Zoheir Bessa, coordinator of the Algerian Party for Democracy and Socialism, with whom we had the honor of collaborating at the bilateral meetings of our parties in Athens and at the International Meetings of Communist and Workers' Parties.

Comrade Zoheir Bessa was born in Algiers on August 2, 1947. From his early youth he became known for his militant action and his unwavering dedication to the values of socialism-communism and of Proletarian Internationalism.

In practice, what your party states, among others, in its condolence message is confirmed: “Comrade Zoheir Bessa always linked the struggles of the working class and the working peasants in Algeria with the struggles of the workers and oppressed peoples around the world. His long-standing contribution embodied his unwavering belief in solidarity with all anti-imperialist struggles, which he considered a natural extension of the struggle for national and social liberation. For him, the communist ideal was not limited to narrow national boundaries, but was rather, an integrated human perspective that united the exploited and the oppressed in a common struggle against repression, exploitation and injustice.”

The KKE expresses its warm condolences to the members and cadres of the Algerian Party for Democracy and Socialism and we ask you to convey our condolences to the family and relatives of the comrade."
