KKE on Europarliament's corruption scandal: European Union itself is a “nursery” of corruption

Greek social democratic MEP, who also serves as one of EU Parliament's Vice Presidents, Eva Kaili, was arrested on Friday afternoon amid an investigation into corruption implicating FIFA World Cup hosts Qatar. After searches on 16 properties, including the homes of MEPs advisers, police seized around €600,000 in cash, computer equipment, and mobile telephones.

This is said to include Luca Visentini, General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC); Niccolò Figà-Talamanc, director of No Peace Without Justice NGO; the former Socialists & Democrats MEP Pier-Antonio Panzeri; and parliamentary assistant in the Socialists & Democrats group and Kaili's partner, Francesco Giorgi.

KKE: The EU of the monopolies is a “nursery” of corruption

In a statement about the above developments, the Press Office of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) points out:

“The investigations on corruption concerning members of the Europarliament, incuding its Vice President and PASOK-KINAL MEP Eva Kaili, bring to the fore the “blood ties” of the EU and its institutions, through various official and unofficial lobbies, with big business interests.

We remind that recently, with a parody resolution and despite the crocodile tears, the European Parliament itself legalized the barbarity against workers in World Cup's sweatshops in Qatar. This is the same barbarity that Mrs. Kaili called “a vanguard in labor rights”!

The competition between various big interests and business groups for the control of the organization, the thousands of institutionalized lobbies in the European Parliament, the EU of the monopolies, are “nurseries” of corruption and constitute the normality of a rotten exploitative system that can't be healed.”
