The so-called "Strategic Dialogue" between Greece and the United States began in Washington DC on Thursday, focusing on regional defense, security and energy issues (read the Joint Statement).
The Greek government is represented by the alternate Foreign Minister Giorgos Katrougalos, while the U.S. delegation includes Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Wess Mitchell.
In a statement regarding the US-Greece Strategic Dialogue, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) points out the following:
"The 'Strategic Dialogue' between the governments of Greece and the US reflects the deeper involvement of our country in the dangerous US-NATO plans.
The SYRIZA-ANEL government is highlighted as the best partner of the US in the region:
- It consistently promotes the plans for the strengthening on NATO in the Balkans and Eastern Mediterranean, which aims in the weaking of Russia's influence. The "Prespes Agreement" also serves this purpose.
- Enhances and expands the US-NATO military bases in Greece.
- Participates in the so-called "anti-terrorist" campaign which, all these years, consisted the vehicle for interventions and wars against countries and people in the region.
- Promotes closer collaboration with state-terrorists, such as Israel.
For all these reasons, which are clearly and cynically are reflected in the Joint Statement of the "Strategic Dialogue", the SYRIZA-ANEL government is given credit because during its term the relations with the US are in the best phase. And that alone consists a huge provocation for the Greek people who know well what they- as well as other people- have experienced due to the US policy.
The exchanges of this criminal policy are neither related to the people, nor they protect the country's sovereign rights. The exact opposite happens. Greece is transformed into an outpost of the US and NATO and gets in the epicenter of the sharpening competitions in the region.
The only gainers will be those sections of the capital which will benefit from the energy-related and other business partnerships which, among other things, hand over the public wealth of the country in domestic and foreign business interests.
