KKE's General Secretary D. Koutsoumbas on the result of the US elections and its impact on Greece

On 6 November, Dimitris Koutsoumbas, General Secretary of the CC of the KKE, spoke at a mass meeting on the island of Rhodes, on the theme “Rhodes: An upgraded tourist product at the crossroads of NATO plans. The consequences for the lives and rights of the people”.

The GS of the CC of the KKE, among other things, referred in detail to the two imperialist wars in the Middle East and Ukraine and denounced the involvement of the New Democracy government alongside the USA, NATO and the EU.

“While implementing its unacceptable policy, the New Democracy government enjoys the support of the other parties, which do not even remotely question the strategic decisions of the country’sruling class to ally with the USA, France, Israel and the imperialist organizations of NATO and the EU.

Precisely because these alliances are ‘strategic’, the New Democracy government has been quick to make it clear that they will not be disrupted, no matter who eventually ends up in the position of President of the United States.

Besides, during Trump’s previous term, both the SYRIZA government and the subsequent ND government were very eager to improve their relations with the US and its “devilishly good” (*) President.

In other words, our country will continue to be a loyal ally of the USA, playing the role of the henchman in the dangerous NATO plans in the region, which will continue under Trump, who was elected yesterday as the 47th President of the USA.

What is certain is that this is a result that is hostile to the peoples of the whole world and to the people of the USA.

However, even in the USA, as was confirmed during our recent visit, processes are taking place, new great struggles are developing, such as strikes, which represent a real hope.”, noted D. Koutsoumbas.

(*) In October 2017 there was an official visit to the USA by Alexis Tsipras, president of the “left” SYRIZA party and then prime minister of the “left” government. During the meeting with the then US President, D. Trump, Tsipras had described him as “devilishly good”.
