Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) denounces secret agreement between Maduro government and Chevron

The Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) has denounced as harmful to national sovereignty, the restoration of operations by the US multinational oil giant Chevron in the country, following an agreement with the social democratic government of Nicolas Maduro

Pedro Eusse, a member of the Political Bureau of the PCV, said that the information was first  disclosed through foreign media and not through official channels in the country. "It is alarming that agreements of this magnitude are disclosed through informal channels and are not subject to public scrutiny," Eusse warned.

The Communist leader criticized the recent statements by the Vice President of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, who called those who question the terms of the agreement with Chevron "stupid" and stated that it was a "private" agreement between the administrations of Nicolás Maduro and Donald Trump.

"We remind this citizen that the Constitution establishes that all contracts of public interest must be debated and approved by the National Assembly. "This is not a private business," Eusse emphasized.

The PCV denounced the current government's arbitrary and opaque handling of economic matters of public interest, acting "as if it were its own private treasury." In this regard, it reiterated its rejection of the so-called "anti-blockade law," which Eusse described as "an unconstitutional instrument that has served as a vehicle for plunder, corruption, and to conceal agreements that undermine national sovereignty."

"Agreements are being signed here behind the people's backs, and the most serious thing is that those who should be held accountable are doing so with cynicism and threats," he stated.

Finally, the PCV called on popular, union, and revolutionary forces to strengthen the struggle for the restoration of the full validity of the Constitution and for a sovereign oil policy that guarantees transparency, public debate, and the protection of national interests.
