Greek Elections 2023 — Now is the time to decide how much stronger the KKE will be

The General Secretary of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), Dimitris Koutsoumbas, was the keynote speaker at the mass rally organized by the organizations of the KKE and KNE in the city of Patras on Monday 19/6. The communist mayor of the city, Kostas Peletidis, also attended the rally.

In his speech, Dimitris Koutsoumbas stressed the following:

“Another crime that was bound to happen, the shipwreck off Pylos that continues to shock us all, was carried out a few days ago. The KKE is once again at the forefront of the struggle and clearly states that, despite the decay and cynicism of all the voices of the system, there is the choice of action and organized struggle against barbarity.

In opposition to statements that make people sick to their stomach, such as ‘how much a search and rescue operation costs in Greece’, there is the KKE stating that when a mother and her child enter the holds of a death trap, everything provided for by international conventions for the protection of human life at sea must be done in order to save them.

For the KKE, the solution to the dilemma “it is either their profits or our lives” lies in the daily struggle to eliminate injustice and the laws that impose it, in the struggle for a better life for our children and ourselves.

We, communists and other militants, like millions of people in our country, are inspired by the words of the great revolutionary Che, ‘The life of a single human being is worth a million times more than all the property of the richest man on earth.

Because in the year 2023 realism means to end the social parasitism of capitalists, who are determined to commit any kind of crime for the sake of their profits.

You see, each party defines the meaning of humanism and realism at will. New Democracy, SYRIZA and PASOK have described the bombing of Libya, Syria, Iraq and Yugoslavia, the criminal actions of the murderous state of Israel against Palestine and so on as ‘humanitarian interventions and realistic approaches to the modern world’.

So let us be clear: as long as they smugly snap to attention in front of the butchers of the peoples, as long as they cooperate with authoritarian regimes, as long as they make deals so that Greek monopoly groups can also profit from the looting of bombed and poor countries, that is, as long as they stand for ‘realism’ that enlarges the refugee problem, we will reverently bow our heads to the little children who perished a few days ago, like Alan Kurdi. We will give a helping hand to all those driven from their homes.

We will make realistic proposals to abolish the unacceptable EU agreements. Asylum committees should be set up in Turkey and refugees should go to their real destination  countries. We will struggle to consign the system that gives rise to crises, wars, poverty and refugees to the dustbin of history.

Now is the time to decide who will take the wind out of New Democracy’s sails; who will strike a blow against the system; who will be able to confront, impede and delay the implementation of the anti-popular policies supported by New Democracy, SYRIZA and PASOK. Now is the time to decide how much stronger the KKE will be.

We have a sense of responsibility towards the people who trusted us and look to us even if they do not agree with us on all issues. We have a duty and we will fulfil it from the very first day after the elections, like we have always done. Whenever there is injustice; wherever there is suffering; wherever there is authoritarianism and repression; whenever  the selective incompetence of the bourgeois state will leave us unprotected from natural disasters, we will be there.

We look to the future, we have courage and endurance, because we know that only the people can save the people, on the path to the overthrow of capitalism. We can do it.

In the few days left before Sunday, we are doing our best to ensure that not a single vote for the Party is lost.”
