The KKE condemns the U.S provocative threats of a new imperialist military attack on Iran

In a statement (here in Greek) on developments in Iran, the Press Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) notes:

“The KKE condemns the provocative threats issued by the United States for a new imperialist military attack on Iran, jointly with the state of Israel, within the framework of the broader imperialist antagonisms, aiming to shape political developments in that country as well, in accordance with their own geopolitical interests. These threats come as a continuation of the imperialist intervention in Venezuela and the threats directed against Cuba, Colombia, Mexico, and Greenland.

We stress once again that developments in Iran are the concern of the Iranian people themselves, who are struggling for their rights against the anti-people policies of the government and the bourgeois state. These policies have fueled soaring prices, kept wages at extremely low levels, employed repression against popular mobilizations, killed demonstrators, banned the activity of the Communist Party (Tudeh), and suppressed the exercise of political rights. The people of Iran are the only ones competent to determine the political and social developments in their country.

For this reason, the KKE expresses its solidarity with the struggling people, who can safeguard their mobilizations and defend their own independent interests, in opposition to all forms of imperialist intervention, exploitation, and machinations organized by the United States and Israel.

It is obvious that the ‘sensitivities’ of the United States, the European Union, and the Greek government regarding ‘democracy’ and ‘human rights’ in Iran are more than hypocritical. All of this is used as a pretext, in line with their well-known practice, for the preparation and justification of imperialist interventions. Their hypocrisy is further exposed by the strategic relations they maintain with reactionary regimes in Saudi Arabia, the Gulf monarchies, the jihadists in Syria, and the state of Israel, which murders the Palestinian people.

The people must intensify their struggle by condemning imperialist threats and interventions against the peoples of Venezuela, Iran, Cuba, and other countries, and by demanding that the New Democracy government disengage from imperialist plans, return all units of the armed forces from Euro-Atlantic missions abroad—such as the Patriot missile battery deployed in Saudi Arabia and the frigate operating in the Red Sea.”
