Statement by the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME), Greece's trade union powerhouse, on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women:

 

"On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, PAME expresses once again its solidarity to every woman who experiences violence and insecurity at work and in everyday life.

We especially denounce the horrific incidents of sexual abuse and exploitation of children.

Greece: People's solidarity stops seizure of pensioner’s home by the banks

On Monday, November 21, at 5.30 in the morning a bailiff with police forces broke into the house of an elderly woman, a low pensioner in Athens, Greece, in order to evict her and her home to be given to a fund that had bought her debt.

The elderly woman, Ioanna Kolovou, mother of a person with special needs, had a debt from credit cards of 15.000€, which, when she lost her husband, she could not afford its payment and asked for a settlement of the debt. While the bank was delaying the procedures the interests were growing and doubled the debt with the Bank going forward to auctioning her home to a Fund (called "vultures" for taking people’s homes).

On November 9 a General Strike took place in Greece. A strike that was decided, was prepared and succeeded thanks to the action of the militant trade unions of Greece. It was one of the most massive and successful strikes of recent years. In this strike the class unions of Greece had the massive support and solidarity of militant unions from all over the world and at the central Strike Rally of PAME in Athens attended the entire Secretariat of the World Federation of Trade Unions-WFTU/FSM, expressing its solidarity in practice.

With a massive strike rally in the center of Athens and numerous demonstrations over 60 cities across the country, Greece's organized labor movement sent today, November 9, a militant and powerful message of struggle against the anti-people’s policy that generates poverty, hunger, exploitation and wars, that leaves the people freezing so as to warm the profits of the business groups. 

The Unions have declared Wednesday 9 November a 24-hour nationwide strike demanding, among others, substantial increases in wages and pensions, for collective agreements that guarantee stable work with rights, for electricity and basic goods cheap for the people (read PAME statement).

The preparations and the call for the National General Strike of November 9 continue and escalate. November 9 Strike rallies have been announced so far in 61 Cities all over Greece.

PAME’s greeting at the 58th Congress of the UD CGT13 in Marseilles: "Our future is not to become slaves of the 21st century"

A delegation of the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME) Secretariat and the Union of Piraeus' Port Dockers of COSCO arrived in France to participate in the Congress of UD CGT 13 and express solidarity with the strike actions of the working class of France. PAME stands by the side of the working class of Turkey: On the employers’ crime in Amasra

In a statement about the employers' crime in Bartin, Turkey, which led to the deaths of 41 miners, Greece's All Workers-Militant Front (PAME) points out:

"PAME expresses its deep sorrow and condolences to the families and colleagues of the 41 miners murdered in the Amasra mines in Bartin, Turkey.

41 of our brothers, our colleagues did not return to their families because of the employers’ unending pursuit of profit. After the dead of Soma, whose families are still waiting for justice, comes another massacre of workers.

WFTU-PAME: Solidarity with the big strike of the workers in the French Refineries #SoutienRaffineurs

The World Federation of Trade Unions, representing 105 million workers in 130 countries around the world, expresses its support for the strikers in the refineries of France and for the FNIC CGT, affiliated to the WFTU, which has been leading this heroic struggle for 3 weeks against the big monopolies Total and Exxon mobile.

Refinery workers in France are waging a powerful and exemplary struggle, at a time when these big oil monopolies are paying billions of Euros in dividends to their shareholders, while refusing to raise wages: refiners are showing that only the way of the strike and the struggle can force the employers to satisfy the demands of the workers.

Greece's trade union movement prepares for massive nationwide strike on November 9

With big, massive meetings, representing hundreds of Unions the class unions of Greece prepare the National General Strike of November 9 and honored the WFTU International Action Day.

In Athens at the Sporting Arena, which was decorated with the banners of PAME, the trade unions and the WFTU, and with the central banner of the event giving the slogan “No waiting, no tolerance, everyone to the general strike on 9 November”, welcomed hundreds of trade union delegations from all sectors.

USA: Solidarity with the nurses' strike in Minnesota and Wisconsin

The largest private sector nurses' strike in US history kicked off Monday, organisers said, with some 15,000 workers in hospitals across Minnesota and Wisconsin demanding better working conditions and higher wages.

Strikes in the United States have occurred regularly over the past year, with employees reporting to be exhausted by working during the Covid-19 pandemic and struggling with price rises.

Thousands joined PAME rally in Thessaloniki, sending powerful message to Mitsotakis' government

Thousands of workers, self-employed people, farmers, pensioners, young men and women participated on Saturday evening in a massive rally organized by the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME) and Trade Unions on the occasion of the inauguration of the 86th Thessaloniki International Fair by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Under the slogan "Organization and Struggle for contemporary rights" a large number of protesters from the city of Thessaloniki as well as from other regions of northern Greece sent a militant message to New Democracy (ND) conservative government.

Ukraine and Russia governments unleash attack against workers' rights

In the midst of the imperialist war, the governments of Ukraine and Russia are promoting and implementing bills that undermine the rights of the workers in favor of the big capital.

Ukraine's Parliament Verkhovna Rada has passed two bills that obliterate workers' rights to collective bargaining and other fundamental labor protections, and allow employers to put up to 10% of their workforce on “zero hour” contracts leaving them without any control over their working lives. 

PAME denounces the attempts to criminalise trade union action in Italy

In a statement the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME) stresses out: 

In Italy the USB and Si Cobas unions are facing a 350-page indictment by the Piagenza Public Prosecutor’s Office in which the unions and trade unionists are accused of “crimes” such as picketing strikes, protests and mobilisations in the logistics sector. 

On the basis of this indictment, a police operation has been carried out since this morning with searches of trade unionists’ homes and the arrest of 4 USB trade unionists.

PAME slams U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on abortions: Women’s rights are non-negotiable

In a statement about the U.S. Supreme Court's despicable decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade case thus ending the constitutional right of women to abortion, the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME), Greece's trade union powerhouse, stresses out:

"At a time when inconceivable wealth is being produced and science is making leaps and can solve huge problems of society, we workers are experiencing the escalation of authoritarianism, repression, reactivation.

PAME: Strong, militant successful Congress with more than 2,000 delegates

On June 18-19, 2022, the heart of Greece's working class movement was beating in Piraeus, where the National Meeting of the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME) took place, with the participation of more than 2,000 delegates from 506 trade unions of private and public sector from all over the country in addition to 60 Pensioners Unions. 

Under the major slogan “Our Power is in Organization, Hope lies in our Struggles, Our weapon is Solidarity”, trade unionists-workers discussed the current situation in the labour movement, as well as the next steps for the intensification of the class struggle.

Thousands of protesters in Greece raised their voice against the Greek-American Military Agreement

Thousands of people, workers, students, pensioners, men and women of every age, participated on Thursday afternoon in demonstrations in Athens and other major Greek cities against the Greece-USA Agreement which upgrades and extends the existing network of US-NATO military bases in the country. 

The rallies were organized by the the Struggle Committee against the Greece–USA Agreement on Military Bases, with the support of the Greek Committee for International Detente and Peace (EEDYE), the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME), the Federation of Greek Women (OGE), numerous Workers' Unions and Associations, Students' Unions and other groups of the people's movement.  

May Day 2022 in Greece: "The working class does not bow its head" (VIDEO)

“The working class will not bow its head” was the message sent by thousands of demonstrators on May 1st in Athens' Syntagma Square, on the occasion of the International Workers' Day. With a militant rally, trade unions that participate in the ranks of the All-Workers' Militant Front (PAME) raised their voice against the rise of prices and Greece's involvement in the imperialist war in Ukraine.

136 years since the uprising in Chicago, in the shadow of another imperialist war that is taking place for the profits of the capitalists, in the face of the escalating attack of governments against the workers' rights, the message of the May 1st protests throughout Greece is a beacon of hope. 

USA: No more workers’ blood for the profits of the bosses!

More than 90 people were killed in several states across the U.S. after tornadoes and heavy rains hit the region. Among them are six employees at AMAZON warehouse in St. Louis, Illinois, were roof collapsed and eight workers at a candle factory in Kentucky. 

In a statement, the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) and its militant trade unions across the world pledge "to continue the struggle for all necessary measures to protect workers from natural disasters and extreme weather events, measures that the US do not take because they consider them as a “cost”.
