Venezuela Earthquake: Communist Parties express internationalist solidarity with the Venezuelan people

Communist and workers' parties from around the world continue to express their solidarity with the people of Venezuela following the devastating earthquakes that struck the country, claiming hundreds of lives, injuring many more and causing widespread destruction.

In messages addressed to the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) and the Venezuelan people, fraternal parties have conveyed their deepest condolences to the families of the victims while reaffirming the principles of proletarian internationalism and support for the country's working class during this difficult time.

The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) sent a letter to the Central Committee of the PCV expressing its "unwavering solidarity" with the Venezuelan people. The KKE stressed that the tragedy once again demonstrates how the poorest sections of society bear the heaviest consequences when essential earthquake protection measures, infrastructure and civil protection are sacrificed in the pursuit of capitalist profit. The Greek communists also conveyed their condolences to Venezuela's working class and popular strata.

The Communist Party of Mexico (PCM) likewise expressed its broad solidarity with the Venezuelan working people and the PCV, extending its condolences to the families of the victims and wishing a speedy recovery to those injured. The Mexican communists also recognized the efforts of rescue workers and volunteers engaged in search-and-rescue operations.

Messages of solidarity were also issued by the South African Communist Party (SACP), which expressed sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives and wished a swift recovery to the injured, while reaffirming its fraternal support for the Venezuelan people.

The Communist Front of Italy conveyed its solidarity with both the PCV and the Venezuelan people, emphasizing the importance of internationalist support in the face of such a devastating natural disaster.

The Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) also addressed the PCV, expressing its "most sincere solidarity" with the Venezuelan people affected by the catastrophe and extending condolences to the victims' families.

In the United States, the New Worker newspaper, official publication of the Communist Workers Platform USA, likewise expressed solidarity with the Venezuelan people, calling for practical international support for the victims of the disaster and emphasizing that humanitarian assistance must take precedence over political considerations.
