Response to the slanderous attack by the Russian CWP and the CP of the Russian Federation, which misrepresents the positions of the KKE
The KKE emerged stronger from its 22nd Congress, which was prepared through a lengthy and substantive pre-congress process centred on the Theses of the Central Committee. These were approved by an overwhelming majority of Party members, a fact that highlights the ideological and political unity of the KKE.
It was a process in which thousands of Party cadres and members participated, while friends, supporters, and pioneering workers also submitted their opinions. The Political Resolution, which was adopted unanimously by the Congress, will be published in the coming days, translated, and made available to the Communist Parties.
Now, in a spirit of enthusiasm, our Party is moving forward in an organized manner to implement its resolutions, guided by the orientation encapsulated in the slogan of the Congress: “A powerful KKE, steadfast in every trial, ready to answer history’s call for socialism”.
Our Party is at the forefront of the workers’ and people’s struggles against the anti-popular policies of the government and the bourgeois parties, the strategy of capital and the EU, imperialist wars, US and NATO interventions, the US attack on Venezuela, threats against Cuba and Iran, and Greece’s involvement in imperialist plans for the interests of the bourgeoisie. At the same time, it continues the struggle for Greece’s disengagement from the imperialist alliances of NATO and the EU, so that the people become masters in our country.
The communists fought for the interests of the workers and the people through mass strike mobilizations across various sectors and companies — in ports and on ships, in healthcare and education, and in the farmers’ struggle, during which they set up roadblocks with their tractors for 55 consecutive days. The members and friends of the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) are also at the forefront of the struggle in universities and schools.
The cadres, members, and friends of the KKE are organizing a major strike and demonstrations across the country on 28 February, three years after the crime in Tempe, under the slogan “Their profits or our lives”. The protests condemn the policies that led to the collision of two trains, which claimed the lives 57 people, mostly young men and women.
Solidarity is consistently expressed with the Palestinian people, the people of Cuba, and the Communist Party of Cuba against the blockade imposed by US imperialism and the new criminal measures aimed at the economic strangulation of the island. On 11 March, the KKE and the KNE are organizing a mass solidarity rally in Athens, followed by a march to the US embassy.
The class-oriented forces of the All Workers’ Militant Front (PAME), led by members and cadres of the KKE, have taken new and significant steps in the workers’ movement through a determined confrontation with employer- and government-led trade unionism.
In summary, it is worth noting that the lists supported by PAME secured first place at the Congress of the Civil Servants' Confederation (ADEDY), first place in the Athens Labour Centre —the largest Labour Centre in the country— and an absolute majority in the union of country’s largest hospital, Evangelismos.
In recent days, communists and our people have witnessed the remarkable publication of photographic documents that, after 82 years, vividly capture the heroism and courage of 200 communists who stood proudly before the firing squad and were executed by the fascist occupiers on the altar of freedom in Kaisariani on 1 May 1944.
We demand that these documents become the property of our people, and we give a decisive response to the bourgeois forces and the EU, which have adopted anti-communism and the despicable “two extremes” theory as official ideology, equating, in an unhistorical manner, fascist criminals with communist fighters and fascism with communism —the future of the world.
We have much work ahead of us. We continue the struggle under difficult and complex conditions, within an unfavourable correlation of forces, insisting on strengthening the KKE and KNE, and advancing the anti-monopoly and anti-capitalist struggle, with the aim of overthrowing capitalism and building a new, socialist–communist society.
An attack that will fail
We struggle for high goals and ideals, and at the same time we are witnessing a slanderous attack orchestrated by the leaderships of the RCWP, the CPRF, and the spurious “World Anti-Imperialist Platform”. This attack has no effect on the KKE, is doomed to failure, and runs contrary to the will and concerns of communists around the world, who are following the KKE’s fierce struggle with great interest.
No matter what these leaderships do, they cannot escape their responsibility for supporting the bourgeoisie and the bourgeois state of Russia in the imperialist war in Ukraine. They react erratically with attacks on the KKE and on the dozens of Communist Parties that highlight the real causes of the imperialist war, the imperialist rivalries that drive it, and the danger of its escalation and generalization.
For four years of war, two peoples who once fought together to build socialism and defeat Nazism in the Second World War are now killing each other, sacrificed today for the interests of the bourgeoisie, while Putin, Trump, Zelenskyy, and the EU haggle over control of natural resources and the division of the region.
The pretexts of “anti-fascism” put forward by the Russian leadership under Putin, and echoed by the RCWP and the CPRF, cannot justify the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops. This has opened highly dangerous paths, is exploited by US–NATO imperialism as an alibi to undermine the sovereignty of states, and is used against the peoples.
Historical experience is invaluable. The struggle against fascism is inextricably linked to the struggle against capitalism, which both gives rise to and sustains it. The so-called anti-fascist fronts with bourgeois forces have been repeatedly tested, ultimately trapping the peoples and perpetuating bourgeois power.
Arbitrary interpretations and distortions of the KKE’s positions
The targeted offensive against the KKE is marked by arbitrary interpretations and distortions of its positions.
First, under the difficult conditions of the counter-revolution, the KKE took responsibility, initiated the IMCWPs, supported them in multiple ways over many years, and has continued to participate in them consistently. Within the IMCWPs, it presents its positions, insisting on upholding their communist character, preventing their manipulation by any imperialist bloc, and carrying out the joint actions that have been agreed upon.
For years, the KKE has highlighted the ideological, political, and organizational crisis within the communist movement, noting its negative impact on the IMCWPs. Following the imperialist war in Ukraine, the situation has worsened, and the ideological–political ideological struggle over key strategic issues within the communist movement has intensified. Operational difficulties have increased, and the implementation of joint actions has been weakened. These issues were raised at the 22nd Congress of the KKE, and the attempt by the Russian Communist Workers Party (RCWP) and the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) to blame our Party is entirely unfounded, motivated by ulterior aims, and fosters conditions of polarization ahead of the upcoming Working Group meeting and the next IMCWP.
Under these difficult circumstances, the KKE supports the Communist Party of Turkey, which has taken on the organization of the Working Group, confirmed its participation in a timely manner, and will take part in the 24th IMCWP in Havana. This will be done within the framework of the rules that have governed the IMCWPs to date, in order to express internationalist solidarity with the people and the Communist Party of Cuba, and to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Comandante Fidel Castro.
Second, the KKE assumed responsibility for the SolidNet website, which facilitates the exchange of information between communist parties, supported it wholeheartedly, and contributed to its further development. The SolidNet Team has consistently adhered to the principles and rules collectively decided upon. The The false allegations of censorship by the RCWP and the CPRF are collapsing under the weight of long-standing experience. For 27 years, from 1999 to the present, dozens of Communist and Workers’ Parties have submitted their messages, resolutions of their guiding organs, and statements —all of which have been published without issue. The exception, following the war in Ukraine, has been the stance of the RCWP, which at times has violated the collective rules and principles of SolidNet, attempting to use it as a space for slanderous attacks against Communist Parties and fruitless confrontations unrelated to genuine ideological–theoretical struggle. The CPRF and the Union of Communist Parties–CPSU have recently joined this effort. What is particularly troubling is that the slanderous attack against SolidNet launched by these parties coincides with their public intention to set up other international media outlets involving “left-wing”, “patriotic”, “anti-fascist” forces, i.e., purely bourgeois forces. We have no say in this. They are free to proceed with those who support such initiatives, but there is no need to try to slander the KKE and SolidNet, which they themselves have used for years, as an alibi for their actions.
Third, the deliberate attack on the KKE through the fabricated and false claim that our Party interferes in the internal affairs of Communist Parties in order to divide them is a provocative practice. These dirty tricks are now being employed by parties that, in previous years, praised the KKE for its principles, its commitment to developing bilateral relations, its dedication to proletarian internationalism, and its internationalist solidarity. The KKE cannot be held responsible when communists, repelled by the policy of class collaboration pursued by certain parties, choose to abandon them and seek to form genuinely communist Marxist–Leninist parties. The KKE continues to struggle on the basis of clear principles and participates, through its positions, in the intense ideological–political struggle within the communist movement. For many years, it has supported the need to form a Marxist–Leninist pole, to advance the revolutionary regroupment of the communist movement, and to forge its ideological unity.
The KKE cooperates with dozens of Communist Parties, including new ones that have emerged under the current conditions of struggle and are in conflict with opportunism and social chauvinism. It seeks to exchange comradely views and experience with all Communist Parties and strives for joint action. It stands steadfastly alongside Communist Parties subjected to anti-communist attacks and persecution by the bourgeois state. It has done so repeatedly in support for communists in Russia and Ukraine.
It cooperates in particular with Communist Parties with which there is ideological agreement on fundamental strategic issues, such as those participating in the European Communist Action and the International Communist Review, and it appreciates the fact that other Communist Parties are also contributing to this effort.
Each Communist Party proves itself through its actions
Our party believes in the need for substantive discussion within the ranks of the communist movement on critical issues, including:
- Our era, as a period of transition from capitalism to socialism, and the socialist character of the revolution.
- Imperialism as monopoly capitalism and its international dimension as a system in which capitalist states participate according to their economic, political, and military power, within the framework of the uneven interdependence among states that characterizes the exploitative system.
- The stance of communists towards imperialist wars and the necessity of ideological, political and organizational independence of communists; the independent struggle of the working class for its own interests; and the overthrow of monopoly power.
- The development of monopoly capitalism in China and the competition between the US and China over supremacy in the capitalist system, which has a catalytic impact on international developments.
- The stance of Communist Parties towards social democracy and the rejection of participation in, or support for, bourgeois governments.
- The causes and factors that led to the counter-revolution, the overthrow of socialism, and the restoration of capitalism.
- The scientific laws of socialist revolution and construction, as opposed to so-called “market socialism” and other serious issues currently under debate within the Communist Movement.
We reiterate that the necessary discussion within the communist movement bears no relation to the slanderous attacks of parties that collaborate with the bourgeoisie and the bourgeois state, have detached themselves from the working class, its needs and mission, and seek to justify imperialist war while concealing its real causes.
The criterion of truth is action. Every Communist Party is tested and evaluated in the course of the class struggle. It is there that the KKE deploys its forces, confident in the just cause of the working class and its historic mission.
