Workers' Day in Nazareth: Arab and Jews protesters send message against war and capitalism

@Hadash_org
Defying the various governmental threats and prohibitions, thousands of demonstrators from across Israel and Palestine participated in large rally held on Saturday 3 May in Nazareth, in honor of the International Workers' Day.

The event, organized by Hadash (Democratic Front for Peace and Equality) and the Communist Party of Israel, was attended by Arabs and Jews, members of Knesset, leaders and members of the labour organizations and heads of local Arab communities.

The demonstrators waved red flags and banners that read "Partnership of Arab and Jewish workers for peace," "Stop the war of annihilation against the Palestinian people," "Workers of all countries unite," "Unity of struggle against occupation, fascism, and class exploitation," and other slogans against war and capitalism and in favor of peace and socialism. At the head of the procession marched the orchestra of the Nazareth branch of the Communist Youth League.

At the end of the rally, a gathering took place at HaMa'in Square, where Communist Party and Hadash leaders addressed the protesters. "Netanyahu does not want to end the war because he sees it as a great opportunity to eliminate the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination. What is currently taking place in Gaza is ethnic cleansing and a war of extermination in the full sense of the word. We must stop the war!", Communist Party Secretary General Adel Amer stressed out among other things.

From his side, Adam Eli, the Secretary of Hadash Tel Aviv branch, said: "It is very difficult to wish today a happy May Day. We are a year and a half after the start of a terrible massacre that Israel is waging in the Gaza Strip. This is not a war on Hamas, but a war against the Palestinian people. The murder of more than 18,000 children is a crime that will not bring security to anyone."

"The war does not serve the Israeli public, and is not wanted by the majority of the people in Israel," Eli added, "We congratulate our draft-rejecting comrades, who are a beacon showing the way to an end to the war, to an end to the occupation, and to peace".

A similar protest, on the occasion of the International Workers' Day, was held on Friday 2 May 2025 in Tel Aviv, at the initiative of Hadash, the Communist Party and the "Standing Together" movement.
