Thousands marched in honor of heroic communists Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht in Berlin

More than 3,000 people of all ages, workers, men and women, participated in a large rally in Berlin, commemorating the 105th anniversary of the murder of heroic communist revolutionaries Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht.

Luxemburg and Liebknecht were brutally murdered on January 15th, 1919 by  paramilitary troops of the social democratic government and the German bourgeoisie shortly after the violent suppression of the Berlin workers' revolution.

The participants marched through Karl Marx Avenue in central Berlin and reached Friedrichsfelde cemetery, the last resting place of numerous working class heroes, including Luxemburg and Liebknecht.

Despite the peaceful character of the demonstration, German police defiantly tried to disperse the protesters by attacking the crowd and creating a tense situation for several minutes.

This year's rally had a special anti-imperialist, message, calling for an end to weapons delivery in Ukraine and showing solidarity with Palestine. Apart from local communist, left-wing parties and groups, the rally was attended by blocs organized by the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP), EMEP and others.
