KKE on Erdogan's provocations: NATO, US and EU fuel Turkish aggression

In a statement concerning the provocative statements of Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan in the United Nations, the Press Office of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) points out:

“Erdogan's delirium at the UN General Assembly, where he presented the entire range of claims by the Turkish ruling class against Greece and Cyprus, cannot be interpreted as a pre-electoral tactic, nor as a product of Turkey's alleged isolation.

It is precisely the strategic relations of NATO, the US and the EU with Turkey – at a time when the competition with Russia has been intensified and under the effort to detach Turkey from Russian influence – that are fueling the aggressive rhetoric of the Turkish government and the respective actions against Greece's sovereign rights”, the Party statement concludes (here in Greek).

Erdogan's aggressive delirium

Earlier today, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan used the speaker’s podium during the United Nations General Assembly in New York to attack Greece.

“Greece is turning the Aegean into a cemetery for migrants,” said Erdogan, stating that Greece “with its illegal pushbacks increases the violence against migrants in the Aegean.” Erdogan also stated that apart from the “inhumane pushbacks,” Greece is pursuing a policy of “political repression and discrimination” against its Muslim community.

“Whoever tries to conduct shows of force in the area, are not equal and have no relations militarily or politically and makes themselves a joke. In the Eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean, a continued stability and peace depends on the respect of everybody’s rights and interests,” said Erdogan, adding that “we call on Greece to cease its policy of provocations and tension and to respond to the call for cooperation and support.”
