European Parliament: Communist MEP Lefteris Nikolaou-Alavanos slams U.S Mideast plan

Speaking at the Plenary of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) MEP Lefteris Nikolaou-Alavanos denounced the recent U.S plan for the Middle East and the Israeli-Palestinian issue.

For the same issue, the E.U High Commissioner on Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell characterized the plan as “positive” and a “starting point for negotiations”.

Communist MEP Lefteris Nikolaou blasts the EU for attempting to re-write History

"The EU will not succeed to re-write people's history, no matter how much anti-communist ink will spill" was the message delivered by the MEP of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) Lefteris Nikolaou-Alavanos in his intervention during EU Parliament's plenary in Strasbourg. 

The debate's subject was "Distortion of European history and remembrance of the Second World War". In his intervention, the KKE MEP pointed out the following (translation from the Greek text):

KKE MEP slams EU and US support on Cuban counterrevolutionary José Daniel Ferrer

As 902 portal reported, during an intervention in the Plenary of the European Parliament in Strasburg, the MEP of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) Lefteris Nikolaou-Alavanos denounced the hypocritical stance of the E.U and the U.S. regarding the human rights situation in Cuba.

KKE: Question in the EU Parliament on the ban of the Communist Party of Ukraine's newspaper

The group of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) in the European Parliament denounces the ban of the newspaper of the CP of Ukraine. MEP Lefteris Nikolaou-Alavanos submitted a question to the European Commission asking its position on these provocative anti-communist decisions which try to ban the propagation of communist ideas. In his question, the MEP of the KKE highlights the following:

“After the unacceptable decision of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine on July 16 imposing a ban on the CP of Ukraine, the Administrative Court of Kiev on August 19, utilizing the entire anti-communist legal arsenal of the Ukrainian governments, also proceeded to ban "Workers’ Newspaper", the newspaper of the CP of Ukraine.

KKE: The new EU Commission will continue the anti-people strategy in favor of the monopolies

Germany's Ursula von der Leyen has been narrowly elected president of the EU Commission following a secret ballot among MEPs. 

The former defence minister of Merkel's government will replace Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on 1 November. She secured the backing of more than half of the members of the European parliament on Tuesday evening.

"It is a big responsibility and my work starts now," von der Leyen said in her first speech immediately after the vote and added. "Let us work together constructively."

European Elections 2019: KKE gets more than 250,000 votes, elects 2 deputies

According to the latest results given by the Greek Ministry of Interior, with 82% of the total electoral centers counted, the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) gets 5.48% (252.912 votes) and elects 2 MEPs. 

The eurodeputies elected with the KKE are Kostantinos Papadakis and Lefteris Nikolaou-Alavanos. 

In yesterday's European elections, the conservative New Democracy (ND) got a comfortable lead (9.5%) over ruling social democratic SYRIZA. According to the latest results, ND gets 33.23% of the votes and elects 7 MEPs, while SYRIZA gets 23.79% and elects 6 MEPs. The center left KINAL (formerly PASOK) party gets 7.61% and elects 2 eurodeputies.

1) In Greece, this year May 26 is marked by a "triple election:" the European elections and the elections for regional and local authorities. It is known that the elections for the EP remain generally far from mobilizing people, and consequently, levels of participation remain considerably low. The KKE, even as a party represented in the EP, has always strictly opposed illusions about the character of the EU, which is an imperialist centre that serves the interests of European monopolies. What is the importance of the European elections for the KKE?
