Concerning the above, the Press Office of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), which had opposed the 2018 Prespes Agreement issued the following comment (here in Greek):
“The references of the new President of North Macedonia confirm the KKE assessment that the Prespes Agreement did not serve the actual solution of the differences between the two countries, but ultimately only the entry of the neighboring country to NATO which has been proven as the main factor of destabilization and nationalism's fueling in the Balkans.
The latest developments expose both the previous Syriza government that defended North Macedonia's NATO' perspective supposedly in the name of normalizing the relations between the two countries within the framework of the “alliance”.
The latest developments expose both the previous Syriza government that defended North Macedonia's NATO' perspective supposedly in the name of normalizing the relations between the two countries within the framework of the “alliance”.
They also expose New Democracy and the other parties which on one hand fished in the murky and dangerous waters of nationalism and, on the other hand, kept silent about the actual NATO character of the agreement. After all, the New Democracy government is evolving into a champion of NATO's plans in the Balkans as well, as demonstrated by its stance on the issue of the protectorate of Kosovo in the Council of Europe”.
