Livorno port workers refuse to load arms shipment destined for Israel

Dock workers in the Italian port of Livorno refused to load a shipment of weapons and explosives after discovering it was destined for the Israeli port of Ashdod.

L’Unione Sindacale di Base (USB), Italy's independent, class-oriented trade union,  pointed out that the ship contained weapons and explosives that will serve to kill the Palestinian civilians, already hit by a severe attack that has killed hundreds of civilian victims, including many children.

“The port of Livorno will not be an accomplice in the massacre of the Palestinian people,” reads a statement by the USB trade unionists. The dock workers were also to hold a pro-Palestinian protest on Livorno’s streets on Saturday.

The protest was to be held “in solidarity with the Palestinian population and to ask for an immediate stop to the bombing of Gaza.” The rally was also to urge “a stop to the expropriation of Palestinian homes, in which they have been living under military occupation for years.”

In a statement about the Israeli aggression in the Middle East, L’Unione Sindacale di Base (USB) points out:

We express our support for the Palestinian people and strongly condemn the ongoing aggression by the state of Israel.

Twentyone Palestinians, including 9 children, have been killed and 65 others injured in air strikes unleashed by Israel on the Gaza Strip.

We call for an immediate end to the airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, the brutal attacks on Palestinians in the area of Al-Aqsa Mosque and to the imposition of the displacement of Palestinian families from their homes in the area of Sheikh Jarrah, in East Jerusalem.

USB, together with the FSM, stands by Palestine and its heroic people.
