Brazil's fascist President Bolsonaro launches new party "against communism"

The far-right President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro launched on Thursday a new political party called "Alliance for Brazil", which will put an emphasis on fighting communism.

The announcement for the new party took place in Brasilia, with a strong appeal to extreme conservatism, including "respect for God and religion", the defense to carry firearms for the protection of private property, the rejection of globalization and the fight against socialism-communism.

The launch of the "Alliance for Brazil" consists an escalation of Jair Bolsonaro's anti-communist "crusade" and will be accompanied by harsh, anti-worker, anti-people measures in the near future.

“We have the opportunity to unite all Brazilians of good faith for the future of our fatherland,” Bolsonaro said in a speech at the launch. The APB announced that Bolsonaro would be the party’s president and his eldest son, Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, will be its first vice president.

The party will need to collect some 500,000 signatures by the end of April to be able to register for the municipal elections in October 2020.

It's the ninth time that the 64-year-old Bolsonaro, a former army captain and an admirer of the 1964-1985 Brazil's military dictatorship, has changed parties in his three-decade political career. He just left the ultraconservative Social Liberal Party (PSL), which had been a fringe group until he joined in March 2018.
