"You have no shame. You deserve no respect": Open Letter of Ástor García to Pedro Sánchez

Spain's social democrat PM Pedro Sánchez (left photo)
and the General Secretary of the PCTE Ástor García.
On the occasion of the recent despicable anti-communist resolution passed in the EU Parliament, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Workers of Spain (PCTE) Ástor García issued an open letter to the General Secretary of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) and Prime Minister of Spain Pedro Sánchez

Read below the full letter written by Ástor García.

Madrid, September 21st 2019.
Dear Pedro,
I do not know if you know that a common resolution “on the importance of the European historic memory for Europe’s future” was quite recently discussed and approved in the European Parliament.
This common resolution was presented by several parliamentary groups, among them the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, where PSOE MEP’s are grouped. It was also presented by the Group of the European People’s Party, by the Renew Europe Group and by the European Conservatives and Reformists Group. That is to say, a common resolution promoted by the parliamentary groups where the PSOE, the PP, Ciudadanos, VOX and the PNV are found.
In this resolution some highly serious statements about the 20th century European History are made, which do not only distort historical facts, but they are also addressed to match, to equate, Nazi-fascism with communism.
This resolution shamefully suggests that the signing of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact of Non-aggression was what caused World War II. It aims to settle and generalize the idea that both Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union are to blame of such war. It hereafter aims as well to settle and generalize the idea that the Soviet Union, in its path towards Berlin, “occupied” Center and Eastern European countries instead of “freeing them” of the governments supported or led by Nazi forces.
This resolution approaches that the only way to be a democratic State is by belonging to the European Union and NATO and by condemning the Soviet and socialist-building experience as “totalitarian”. It even suggests to deepen on the banning of symbols and supportive expressions of the communist ideology.
And all of that, Pedro, is made on behalf of an alleged struggle against “totalitarism”, which is nothing but the disguise you use to try to criminalize the only ideology that has truly put up against the ropes the capitalist dominance that you, your Government and your party defend so much.
This “totalitarism” which serves you to spit out with no shame on the tombs of the thousands and thousands of communists who gave their life in the struggle against Hitler, Mussolini and their allies, who shed their blood in the partisan struggle, in the Red Army or in concentration camps to eradicate once and for all that killer beast Nazi-fascism is.
To those communists, to those partisans, to their families, you will not dare to tell them that their ancestors were equal to fascists. You will not dare because you are a coward, but it is what your party has supported in the European Parliament. All the PSOE MEP’s but one have voted along with the PP, Ciudadanos, the PNV and ERC for sentences like this one: “[It] Notes that the continued existence in public spaces in some Member States of monuments and memorials (parks, squares, streets etc.) glorifying totalitarian regimes, which paves the way for the distortion of historical facts about the consequences of the Second World War and for the propagation of the totalitarian political system”.
You want to end up with the streets dedicated to Stalingrad, the Red Army or the then communist leaders while you conserve the Primo de Rivera Duchy or keep on tolerating that thousands of communists and republicans are still in the roadside ditches in our country.
You have no shame. You deserve no respect. You disregard the truth and manipulate History to adjust it to your masters’ interests. You help to generalize a historical version that benefits the same ones who gave carte blanche to Hitler and Mussolini, to those who created them: the big capitalists who, due to their fear to a rising communism, funded and supported the Nazi and fascist thug and criminal gangs.
With your support to this resolution you prove again, just like Besteiro when he supported Casado’s coup d’état, and like in so many other times in our country’s History, that you are some miserable who do not care about socialism and the working class.

No tenéis vergüenza. No merecéis respeto.
